I don't know how you write such inspirational posts after all that you have been through, this post gives me so much hope for our future. There are many of us that want that positive outlook for our country. I don't normally harbor hatred, but I sometimes teeter on that edge when I hear the MAGA speak against us, spread lies and hatred toward us. Let's gather all of the strength, hope and love for the future of our country. ❤️✌️

Michael, I got chills reading your words today. I read your article out loud to my husband. We were both so moved and saddened. I know it is absolutely impossible, but every American should read this. Once again, thank you for what you do.

When we create war over ideology, we've become like the Middle East countries who have been hating each other for over 2000 years. We have a chance to pull back from the hate of war if we remember the meaning of democracy and freedom.

Thank you. You are exactly correct. Hate has no place in America. It’s not easy but what you have written inspires me to work against attempts to make me just another knee jerk hater.

We all must care. We have to care enough to call out racism when we see it, misogyny when it rears its head, and violence against minority communities when it is threatened. I am deeply offended by being called a flag-burning leftist scumbag by the president of the United States, speaking at a memorial for the victim of a heinous crime, who also espoused many ideologies counter to equality and democracy. We can hate the ideology and still respect the right of the ideologue to spew it…..it has always been the American way. If we are not careful and judicious in selecting our leaders, our ability to criticize and disagree will be smothered.

It is impossible for Trump to be Presidential and bring a message of unity. He is the catalyst of this hatred in our country. His mission is to divide us. He is "the enemy within". I know we will come out of this nightmare at some point, but will we ever be the same again? I am sad for our young people who have never known how great our country was before this malignant narcissist came into office. I pray for our country to be strong and proud again.

Brilliant and inspiring post this morning. Let's amplify the message and stop the 'hate' war. Easier said than done, but if people keep repeating this message, it will lead somewhere. Loads of support from our side of the border. 🌎

Micheal, I am so grateful for your post today! I have been struggling with all the hate that is constantly circulating around us. I am always the eternal optimistic, but after this week my optimism has been tested many times. Thank you for the message of hope and calling it out where it can be found despite all the terrible things that are occurring. I really needed that reminder!

The person most responsible for Kirk’s death is Trump. This endless decade of his spreading HATE into every appearance has created this environment of HATE.

I agree with what you are saying. It seems to me it is Trump and company that are fanning the flames of hate and violence. If you can tell me which democrat leaders are fanning the flames Not people on the left but people who really can influence Jeffries, Schumer, Pelosi...anyone with real influence .. I don't see it . I see the right fanning the flames from the congressman to the President. I think if there is a plea it should be made directly to Donald and to the Republican Party .. An open letter to the NYT might be helpful.
