"America First, Citizens Last"
Trump’s “Golden Dome” is a $500 billion boondoggle disguised as missile defense; gutting social programs to build a floating tribute to his ego, while Americans can’t afford insulin or rent.
Let’s get something straight. When Donald Trump talks about a “Golden Dome,” he’s not referring to that radioactive fox pelt glued to his scalp. No, this is worse; far worse. In his first week back in the Oval Office, Trump signed an executive order directing the Pentagon to develop an American version of Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system. But like everything else with Trump, this isn’t about defense. It’s about delusion. It’s about building a floating gold-plated monument to his ego, while gutting the social safety net to pay for it.
Now he’s calling it the “Golden Dome,” which, let’s be honest, sounds more like the name of a Vegas casino than a strategic military initiative. The cost? More than $500 billion. That’s right. Half a trillion dollars. And if you think this is just about intercepting a few rockets, think again. Trump wants a sprawling, space-age umbrella that claims to protect the homeland from intercontinental ballistic missiles; those fired from China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. Because apparently, our current nuclear arsenal; capable of ending human civilization 100 times over, isn’t quite enough for this guy.
Here’s the kicker: Experts have already dismissed the idea of importing Israel’s Iron Dome design to the U.S. as, in a word, impractical. Israel is the size of New Jersey. America is a continent. The math doesn’t work. The physics don’t work. The only thing that does work is the grift.
But logic doesn’t matter when Trump’s involved. According to Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell, the Defense Department has gathered “the brightest minds and best technical talent” to dream up a system that even the Jetsons would find excessive. Never mind that the Pentagon has been “reviewing options” for decades. Trump’s version comes with a branding twist; and maybe a gold logo slapped on top, just to complete the aesthetic.
Meanwhile, back here on planet Earth, the Trump administration is gleefully slashing funding for food assistance, public education, and healthcare access. Social programs are being gutted to “pay” for this monstrosity. But don’t worry, says Trump; lower prescription drug prices will make up the difference. “We’ll have a lot of money left over,” he boasts, as if saving pennies on insulin will somehow cover the tab for a militarized Death Star hovering over Iowa.
Let’s talk about those priorities. Because what this administration is really doing is robbing from the poor to gift-wrap a golden parachute for defense contractors and tech barons. While Americans skip doctor visits and choose between rent and groceries, DOGE; the Department of Grift and Excess, is dreaming up a space shield with a price tag that could fix almost every domestic crisis we face.
$500 billion could end homelessness in America. It could fully fund universal pre-K, fix our crumbling infrastructure, and forgive student loan debt. Hell, it could pay for a national childcare program, rebuild every public school, and still leave enough left over for free community college. Instead, Trump wants to spend it on a symbolic show of might that may never work, isn't needed, and exists solely to stroke his ego.
And don’t fall for the fearmongering. Yes, China and Russia have long-range missile capabilities. Yes, North Korea and Iran are trying to catch up. But the solution to global instability isn’t to pour gasoline on the fire and build a giant neon target in the sky. It’s diplomacy. It’s investment in resilience, not paranoia. Trump doesn’t want protection; he wants projection. He wants to make America look like a fortress so he can play wartime emperor.
Let’s also not forget who’s now running the show at the Pentagon. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth; yes, that Pete Hegseth, is working hand in hand with Trump to sell this gold-dipped fantasy. These are not serious men. These are Fox News cosplay generals playing missile defense like it’s a round of Call of Duty.
And the most tragic part of this grotesque spectacle? It’s working; at least politically. Trump’s base hears “Golden Dome” and thinks security. Strength. Glory. They don’t see the billions siphoned from public health. They don’t hear the deafening silence from rural communities still waiting on broadband, or schools still using textbooks from the Bush era.
The Golden Dome isn’t just a waste. It’s a warning. A warning that America is no longer led by people grounded in reality, but by narcissists selling fantasy at the cost of your future. It’s not a missile shield. It’s a shield against accountability. Against sanity. Against empathy.
And when history looks back, it won’t remember the Dome as a triumph. It will remember it as a tombstone. A tombstone for reason, for decency, and for every opportunity we had to build a country that took care of its own, and chose instead to build one more weapon we’ll never need.
THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PERSONAL NOTE:
ARE YOU WITH ME? I CAN’T DO THIS ALONE!
If you’re reading this, it means you care. You care about truth. About justice. About saving our democracy from the grip of grifters, liars, and power-hungry con men. But let’s be real; I can’t carry this weight on my own.
I’m asking, no, urging you, my loyal Substack readers, to help grow this platform into a force they can’t ignore. We’re not building a newsletter; we’re building a movement. One loud enough, sharp enough, and relentless enough to push back against the lies and hold the corrupt to account.
Now more than ever, independent journalism needs you. Your support keeps this alive; not corporate sponsors, not shady billionaires with agendas. You.
And yes; as a personal thank you, the first 240 Founding Members will receive a rare, signed, numbered Substack edition of my New York Times bestseller, Revenge: How Donald Trump Weaponized the U.S. Department of Justice Against His Critics. A collector’s item, and a statement.
But this is bigger than a book. It’s about standing up while others stay silent. It’s about building a community that calls out the bullshit and fights like hell for what’s right.
So here’s what you can do: 1) Become a supporter. 2) Share this Substack with family and friends. 3) Bring your people into the fight.
Do your part. Stand up. Speak out. The time is now; and together, we will be heard.
It's all about priorities. Trump wants splashy, expensive symbols to supposedly show power while ignoring the glaring needs of the people. No expense is too great to satisfy his whims regardless of the effect on us.
Meanwhile, people are dying, people are suffering, families are hurting, planes are not reaching their destinations....etc, etc, etc. But thank God more of our tax dollars are going to this incredibly ridiculous and NOT needed "DOME". One day these assholes will have a moment where they will have to face their families, their conscience, and maybe, if they have a fake religious label, their makers.
