Michael-

Jack Smith sat in that chair and did what matters most: he told the truth while everyone else played to their base. The cameras will move on. The outrage will fade. The theatrical scorecards will be forgotten.

His documented record as yours, the evidence, the unflinching answers, stays permanent. That's how institutional memory outlasts political theater.

So well written and on point. Thank you for being the voice of reason among so many here whose only contribution is hate filled rants.

Barking Justice Media's avatar

I must confess I don't understand the motivation behind the rant mentality (anger, frustration, self reflection) but I do believe its destroying our country. It is exactly what the power players want, arguing with ourselves while they steal our money, time, rights and dignity.

Dianne K's avatar

Jack Smith wasn’t guilty of committing any crimes. He was there because he did his job legally.

Jen Baron's avatar

Jack Smith doesn't claim to be a "victim", you do. Jack Smith doesn't claim to be "coerced", you do.

Please don't compare yourself to Jack Smith, it's insulting to Jack Smith.

Barb Smith's avatar

I understand your feelings, however, I respectfully do not agree. Perhaps MC believes he was indeed a victim of selective prosecution that kept the true felon safely behind the cloak of his Presidential veil. No offense intended to Jack Smith, of course, who was not involved in Cohen's prosecution. As for insulting Jack Smith, nope don't think so. Folks always say things like this as if they know with certainty the feelings of others. There is much selective prosecution that does takes place at the very ordinary level of indictments within the criminal justice system - not to mention when the stakes involve the true target of an indictment is the sitting President of the United States (as was Trump). Why would you find prosecutorial coercion that difficult to comprehend?

No one but Michael can honestly express how he felt when he was questioned. Those were his own personal feeling and he owns them. This is his substack where he expresses his thoughts. If people don't like it they should leave. Hateful rhetoric does no one any good and is upsetting to the people who enjoy reading his well written substacks.

I’ve been asking cohen to come clean on Epstein every day. It’s a bit of sloganeering ala cohen, a way to turn the tables on him, but it’s not hate speech. I don’t read his stuff anymore. I was a paid subscriber but not anymore and I encourage others not to give him money until he comes clean on Epstein.

Sheila's avatar

Thank you for your rebuttal which is much more cogent than I could manage.

diana poulin's avatar

I agree with what you are saying, MC was thrown under the bus when he was loyal to DJT. He was really mistreated in prison. If he knows something about the Epstein story, he probably is under threat not to say anything. Virginia Giuffre was treated not to say anything. I can’t see MC being loyal today

Suzanne's avatar

Barb, well said.

Jen Baron's avatar

Hmmm, so now you’re trying to turn this toward how MC “felt” when being interviewed by the DOJ?

I don’t think so. This is not a babe in the woods , this is a seasoned attorney with “Fixer” experience.

If he did nothing wrong, he would have died on that hill. Especially with the backing of Trump.

What are you, his publicist?

Dawn Cali's avatar

Jack Smith is an American Hero and Patriot!

Americans deserve better.

Katrina Danner's avatar

Right ?!? I didn't even finish reading this drivel past the "I know what its like to be Jack Smith." Please, Mr Fixer, you're nothing like Jack and your cracks are showing. LOL enjoy your self pity party. I'm done with getting this trash in my box every day.

Dulcie Sussman's avatar

I enjoy Michael’s insight, and it’s my first read of the morning. I think he’s right on!

Dianne K's avatar

Cohen can't know how Jack Smith feels...Jack Smith isn't guilty.

Antonio Cruz's avatar

Cohen was indeed a victim as are many of trump’s enablers, which Cohen continues to be. The leopard doesn’t change his stripes even when he purrs to the suckers that keep funding him.

Bonnie Boyce's avatar

I think we need to resist the urge to "eat our own." The real enemy is tRump and the terrorist state he and his managers have created. We can probably do better in forgiving those things we perceive as failings in those who oppose the real enemy.

Dawn Cali's avatar

Bonnie, there is nothing wrong with questioning.

For 12+ years Michael Cohen was Trump's "#1 and Fixer."

Michael says he has no information on Epstein, Russia, Trump's Business and Personal dealings? This makes no sense.

Americans deserve better.

Joy B's avatar

This is Michael Cohen’s chance to speak. If you do not like what he says, unsubscribe. The majority of us like his daily muses. To The people that have a problem with MC, we have a problem with you, not MC.

Dawn Cali's avatar

Joy, Forums/Substacks are open to everyone. And they should be. Write your supporting comments if you want to. This is America. Scroll past comments if they bother you. Negative and Personal comments are just wrong. Be careful though in shutting down people you don't agree with. I always learn something from reading the opposite opinion.

When we silence one voice, we eventually silence all.

Americans deserve better.

If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. These are ALL personal comments.

I am astounded how different the side of reality is from the MAGA cult. They will believe nothing that they don't wish to believe. It's like anti-vaxxers + Christian fundamentalism + cult membership + gun nuts all rolled into one--but the sum of the parts is worse than the individual parts. It is the great malady of the 21st century--so far.

Great piece this morning Michael. I'm shocked they allowed Jack Smith to publicly testify. The majority of the population know that the jerk urged his followers to go to the Capital. It was horrible to watch. Shocking that THEY still believe in that POS and protect him. Proud of Jack Smith. Keep up the great work Michael. Let's all stay strong and focused.

Alexander Perez's avatar

Very well written Michael. And a very accurate depiction coming from someone who has been there.

Michelle Landa's avatar

Once again the Republicans prove that they could not play fair no matter what is brought before them. They are under the spell of the evil monster-in-chief. Thank you for this Substack. Very well written.

Peter W Shuster's avatar

Please come clean on the Epstein files.

Sheila's avatar

It’s all very broken. I can only hope that America finds a way out of this somehow. It’s going to be tough, there’s just so much hate. Good luck with it.

Antonio Cruz's avatar

COME CLEAN ON EPSTEIN

Dawn Cali's avatar

I strongly disagree.

It is important to Speak up and Stand up. And I understand Jack Smith may be coming back to talk about the Documents Trump took if corrupt Trump Judge doesn't find a way to put another stall on them.

Personally I hope Jack Smith continues to talk everywhere to everyone.

That is how we Save our Democracy. I have a feeling that Jack Smith will be one that will help us rebuild our Democracy and make it better. Just a hunch. Truly an American Patriot and Treasure.

Americans deserve better.

thanks Michael: God help anyone in the USA gets the Nobel Peace Prize. He will have Bondi all over it. Could someone explain the Board of Peace. Is this just another grift. One billion get you in the door. For what?? Where is Eric and Don Jr. these days?? His family seems to have faded away.

Barb Smith's avatar

Yes to grift, but think about it in an international sense. Trump does not wish to merely cheat gullible Americans out of their money for the honor of owning his trinkets. He is now aiming for the "big boy" donors in the million/billions that constitute the corrupted heads of states from other authoritarian regimes - all while hoisting the banner of international "peacemaker" with his still moist eyes focused squarely on the Nobel Peach Prize.

Linda Fabre's avatar

Excellent recap of the hearing. The theatrics was abhorrent. As if Jack Smith was on trial. It was a good primer though of who NOT to vote for in the future. The ones who threw the rule of law out the window.

diana poulin's avatar

Well there is the old saying; “None so blind as those who don’t want to see “

Barb O's avatar

Anyone who's run 100+ marathons and done 10+ Iron Mans is not going to melt in the heat of false flames coming from Republicans who were totally outclassed. For once, the Republicans were transparent. Witch hunt, indeed.
