The ceasefire wasn't the end of Iran's nuclear ambitions—it was the cover. Newly uncovered evidence reinforces why President Trump concluded Tehran could never be trusted.
Unfortunately, Michael, I cannot trust what you express in this article. I believe you are speaking out before having the facts about the whole situation, and I find this irresponsible.
If President Trump says something, one side applauds it automatically while the other dismisses it just as automatically.
It has been documented that the guy lied to the American public over 30,000 times during his first presidency, and I wouldn't be surprised if he has already beaten that number during this one. All of a sudden, I'm supposed to believe what he says? Especially now where there is some apparent dementia going on along with the lying?? The saying goes that a stopped clock is right twice a day, so it is possible he's got the right time for once. Forgive half the country who would be the villagers from the Boy Who Cried Wolf. You can only lie to us so many times before we roll our eyes and don't believe you.
AN EDUCATED POPULATION IS THE BEST DEFENSE AGAINST ARISTOCRACY
Trump and the Heritage Foundation both know that education is their enemy. Free speech by educated citizens can destroy their plans to turn our country into an autocracy where the ruling power can reshape the country to benefit the wealthy. Trump has dismantled the Department of Education, cut funding for advanced studies at universities, and degraded and controlled elementary education. These changes are all part of the plans promoted in Project 2025.
Compared with other countries, our educational program does not rank among the top 20, with South Korea first and the Nordic countries next. The US and China represent two contrasting educational philosophies. The US system prioritizes decentralization, holistic development, critical thinking, and student-driven exploration. In contrast, the Chinese system employs centralized curricula, intense academic rigor, and a meritocracy heavily driven by high-stakes testing and memorization—University of Colorado.
America is becoming an ignorant population. We are unwilling to invest the effort required to acquire knowledge in any form. We are lazy, and AI will contribute to this lack of education. We are a country whose population thinks in eight-minute segments, the time usually allotted to a TV segment on any show. Our educational process is weak and ineffective, and our colleges have been described as extended day camps. We have done away with formal standardized testing and reduced the number of science and math courses. Whereas in the past we aimed to ensure that college graduates had a well-rounded education, we now have useless college degrees.
Trump and company have reduced or eliminated funding for advanced studies in the sciences, weather research, and space exploration. Education is now in the hands of the individual states, with no national standard in place and subject to local reductions in the importance of national educational standards. Local authorities will control the standards in each state and may have no national responsibility. Combine all of this with the erosion of our freedom of speech, and you can see an organized effort to keep our population ignorant.
Other countries, including China, South Korea, Japan, and all the Nordic countries, recognize that the education of their citizens is essential to their survival. Trump is an ignoramus who sees money as the only measure of success and security; he is an example of an uneducated person with false credentials who is an uncontrollable liar and has conned the uneducated 38% into believing he was a successful businessman. He lied about his success as a businessman, and the uninformed, uneducated Americans drank his Kool-Aid and thought that with him in power, they could go about their lives without having to think.
I taught high school for 30 years - and always told my students - "Don’t believe something just because it’s in a book or someone of authority says it. See for yourself if it’s true. And this includes everything I tell you.”
Michael Cohen, there are so many holes in what you say here. The main thing you omit is that Iran has made an educated decision not to trust this miscreant and not to believe anything that he says. Is it any wonder Iran is trying to defend itself and to do what it needs to do, to do so?
You know too much to omit what is common knowledge about history here. Please be straight with us.
I thought that everyone knew that Iran is not to be trusted. I am a cynical pessimist. I didn't choose that stance; it evolved over all the years I have lived and watched the world's political stage seemingly bang its head against the wall when a situation becomes difficult. Iran is an existential threat to Israel even without nuclear capabilities. If they succeed in manufacturing a nuclear bomb and also produce a method of delivery, then all of the whole world is in danger. You lay out a succinct distillation of the United States' conflicted relationship with Iran (or another country). My problem is that even if Trump's 'out of the blue' attack on Iran turned out to be correct, I am uncomfortable with the Monday morning discussion about the merits of his decisions. Just because he is president doesn't give him carte blanche to do whatever he wants to. We have a system in which the three branches of our government check and balance one another to ensure they are all operating within the law. The ends justifying the means is not a waiver. Trump does not share that view. In fact, the ends always justify the means when he makes a decision. We have never been told why he chose to drop bombs on Iran. He is supposed to go to Congress, and they decide if we go to war or not. (https://www.senate.gov/about/powers-procedures/declarations-of-war.htm) December 8th, 1941, on Japan, and December 11th, 1941, were when we declared war on Germany and Italy. The last time that procedure was implemented was on June 4th, 1942, when three authorizations: Bulgaria, Hungary, and Rumania [sic] were declared. I was going to list the undeclared wars since then, but the list is way too long. For my generation, Vietnam was the glaring exception. One of the points of our protest was the fact that it was undeclared. As usual, I digress. If Trump does something right, then he deserves praise. Personally, I don't think he has the intellect or the knowledge necessary to make decisions about anything, especially going to war. To state that Trump understood the situation before the rest of Washington would accept it doesn't work for me.
First, I really appreciate your many reminders not to reflexively object to everything Trump does just because we object to everything he is. It's hard to do in his case, but profoundly necessary nonetheless. History has amply demonstrated that the Iranian regime cannot be trusted and the nefariousness of their motives can be assumed. Pity that Trump has so thoroughly alienated the rest of the world, including nearly all of our traditional allies, that an international force could not be mobilized to undertake this mission as George H.W. Bush did so brilliantly in Operation Desert Storm in '91. But that that sort of incredibly complex geopolitical diplomacy takes time and patience and depends upon a level of international trust and leadership that he has recklessly squandered. Impulsive narcissism ("Look what I ALONE did!") is a lousy motivation even when the ultimate objective may be entirely laudable.
I know I am not Far-Left. Actually first Independent with a very Conservative Democratic stance. I have voted for Republicans (no longer since the party doesn't exist). Autocracies/Dictatorships often use Labels-Trump's latest-"Communists." "Extreme Far-Left." This is to quiet people and stoke fear.
"During his interview (Michael Cohen) on WABC's Cats & Cosby Show, Cohen also alleged that the left's support and loyalty are "completely transactional". He noted that after the reconciliation occurred, he lost tens of thousands of followers on platforms like Substack due to the backlash from far-left critics." Google
Come on Michael, isn't your change because your Substack was declining? You had no sources. You were shut out by your fellow Commentators and you were telling the same stories, over and over again? The only way you could move forward and perhaps attract numbers was to go to the other side. Now of course, you are back dealing with Trump to profit yourself further and we know it. Hell with Americans, huh?
Accountability. Character matters. Where is yours?
We don't have explicit evidence about what they are doing, maybe dismantling ? You cannot just walk away from uranium energy production, seal up a mountain and hope it will just dissolve. They still need to look after it, its uranium! Poisonous, and a potential environmental disaster. I live not far from from Chalk River, a nuclear plant that creates isotopes used in cancer recovery. It doesn't shut down, it cannot regardless of what its doing. Sitting idol it still requires constant care. Nor the general public and those in government who think they know whats transpiring in these situations are simply not privy to secret service reports, and assuming things is not helpful. What I can tell you, the Regime is rip roaring angry and I can't blame them, but like Maga, the Islamic Regime of Iran is a cult. A cult with a mission, a mission hell bent of the destruction of Israel and the great Satan, aka USA. They aren't going nuke Israel, but they will use nuclear weapons to oppress the middle east into submission as well as being another potential nuclear accident waiting to happen. They are a highly educated and ancient civilization, far less a concern than North Korea, since Korea had no oil nobody cares. Maybe read Chompsky, if you want actual intelligence on the situation and a clearer view of both sides. Manufactured drama seems to justify Maga's and all previous administration's actions. Apparently Canada is just one big fentanyl lab, harboring gangs and drug cartels, 🙄 Trump needs to call in the troops and save America from the scrouge pouring over the boarder....Canada does have a problem, but it's coming into our country from yours. We are all for a wall between the two countries. So like all presidents before him Trump distorts the truth to justify breaking international law, committing war crimes, and crimes against humanity. It was easier to ignore when it was Veitnam, Iraq, and so many other covert and corrupt operations. Now that Canada, Greenland, Nato as a collective are the target...it really does change one's perspective. As Carney stated, the global order had always been a "pleasant fiction", and acknowledged the rules based order never was fair. This is an illegal war, it's costing the world, my Prime Minister just left Jetta after very productive talks and signed agreements. What I'd give to be a fly on the wall. The Abraham Accords in shambles, so called board of peace doctrines now just toilet paper....the Saudis were terrified, their economy disrupted, yes they dislike Iran too but now they are in a precarious situation. The Crown prince had lobbied behind the scenes for Trump, they now have fallen out. Saudi left feeling betrayed and economically unsure. They aren't buying America's narrative, and neither is the rest of the world.
Michael, I’m an old cult survivor, and I’m with you all the way. In that context, I have learned that one who sees evil in others likely has it dwelling in himself. How else would he know it? An old writing teacher of mine remarked, “Humans are capable of anything.”
In the same way, if Trump “believed the (Iranian) regime viewed diplomacy as a tactic, not a destination,” does this not reflect his own practice? He blames EVERYONE else, never himself.
Iran is totally unworthy of trust. They are and always have been sneaky and underhanded. They should never have nuclear power. We are right not to sit still while they plot, plan and rebuild.
Throw out an Agreement (Obama) that is way better than what is being proposed?
Because it was Obama?
Kill Service People and put many in risk for a War of Vanity?
Burn up our Tax Money! While the Trump Regime cuts Health Insurance and Insurance costs rise!
Make Iran stronger by their control of the Strait? Shake up the economies of our Allies due to their need to ship thru the Strait.
So, did you buy the Rhetoric on Venezuela too?
Rhetoric on the Fishermen that were killed?
Rhetoric on ICE and Homeland Security?
Trump refused to sign the Housing Bill to force the SAVE ACT, which would take Voting Rights away from many Americans. This is what America is dealing with. A President who does not protect Americans, but protects himself and his Family and Associates.
I guess you believe when this Trump Regime says they are protecting all from Iran Nuclear, you believe. Ok. Not more I can say.
No to all of that. No need to insult me and try to make me look like a fool. I just don’t trust Iran. There could have been a better way. No to Venezuela. No to Greenland. No to Canada as a 51st state. No to ICE and their viscous behavior. No to starting with Mexico. None of that. Ask first before you try to make me look like an idiot.
The Islamic Regime has always been a nightmare, ask Iranians who endured the change. Before that the Shah, who was the crowned King was among the first to recognize Israel as a state. If you look up images of Tehran prior to the regime yourself you'd be hard pressed to distinguish the citizens from a scene in California. They drank, bar hopped, women were equal, they focused and still do on university education. The women bleached their hair, smoked, wore mini skirts. Their "horrible " government even sent their best scholars to top universities around the world. They had pro western values. The problem, they had oil and the west had to every interest in controlling them. So the older generation remembers the golden era, anyone 50 and older recalls it well. They have the photos, they have the lived experience. Yet the Regime was so brutal, murdering over 100,000 young people in its first year. Similar to the way Americans were tricked into voting for Trump with his fake promises, only to now have ICE rounding up people like the Gestapo, the Iranians thought they were going to get better rates on energy, more money in their pockets. They simply could not imagine being forced in a sharia law system anymore than a Californian can imagine it. Yet it happened with cruel brutality. So most Iranians personally have deep affection for Israel, they too live under the oppression, they too long for life before 1979...Imagine how wonderful the middle east would be today if American greed had not caused this. I have very little empathy for America on this topic. You made your bed, now sleep in it.
That was my whole point. Understand this. I hate Trump more today than I did yesterday and not as much as I will hate him tomorrow. I give him no pass at all. I just don’t trust Iran. My brother in law is Israeli and the stories he tells me would make you shake.
Since more information is coming out of the Epstein Files, we need to have a truthful conversation about Katie Johnson.
Ellie Leonard (The Panicked Writer) is very good at putting the dots together using actual Epstein File Documents (Check out her post yesterday). When you think of it, "Katie Johnson Secret" would join Michael with Trump.
And of course, Michael saying he was coerced (don't forget 35B) could set Trump up for a retrial of his fraud convictions. I pray the System and awesome Investigators hold everyone Accountable.
Katie Johnson was a 13 year old girl. Think of that. Could be your daughter, granddaughter, neighbor's child, etc.
I am a Survivor of Sexual Abuse and it stays with you your entire life. We need to bring all those involved to Investigation and Prosecution! Amazing how long this COVER-UP has gone forward-DECADES!

Then trust history, 47 years of the same tactic that every president dating back to Carter have experienced.
You are not taking into consideration the JCPOA during the Obama administration that was ripped up by Trump.
Diane, I was thinking the same. Even now, Trump hates Obama, and oops! Obama received a Nobel Peace prize!!!!!
And he didn't have to beg for it!
NOPE!!!!!
Nope!!!!!
You are spot on, Lillian!!
