Trump’s bravado meets reality as oil executives politely refuse to bankroll chaos, exposing the yawning chasm between his grand promises and the hard math of global energy markets.
Did he actually believe that the oil companies would jump at the opportunity to invest? He is beyond delusional. They smiled, nodded and quietly said GET LOST. We can say that too. Midterms 2026.
Most people miss that Trump's "Blather" isn't incompetence, it's the business model. Say it, extract attention/capital/legitimacy, move on.
The oil executives gave Trump the polite corporate version of what every American gets from their insurance company: nodding acknowledgment with zero actual commitment. We're all getting the "as polite as humanly possible without committing actual dollars" treatment, just with higher stakes and no White House photo op.
I also heard somewhere that the oil that Venezuela has is not the type of oil that the US gets at the moment or can frack for and our equipment is already geared to utilize that oil correctly not the oil Venezuela has. They would have to spend billions of dollars to make, whatever's been wrong already with the Venezuelan equipment, suitable to use their oil for gasoline.
Bottom line I'm thrilled that the oil companies have not backed him and will not back him.
If Benjamin Franklin, or any of the other founders of our Constitution were alive today, they would be vilifying Donald Trump, and he wouldn’t be in office very long.
Take all that the Trump administration has paid for taking Maduro out of his country and all that they plan to spend on revamping the oil industry there and put every dollar into making renewable energy products for our whole country while still using as needed our own fracked fossil fuel and we would help stem the inevitable tsunami of carbon emissions that is coming. It is the smarter thing to do. Thank you for being so articulate about how badly the leadership is taking the US down the wrong path.
I've always voted against, protested against, stood against trump since I heard his name because of moral values and democratic values. He is morally bankrupt and that was very clear in 2016 and has just become clearer with time. He's just a gross abuser, white privileged human. But I never knew fully what an economically stupid human he is. He's shown that very clearly this year. Really, what do the billionaires see in this fool? THey pay less taxes but they don't have a country left. Idiots abound. Impeach.
If you look at the cost of military deployment which will be ongoing, the actual amount of profit after the oil is extracted and sold, this fiasco is COSTING americans money.
Last night trump said we are getting 30 million barrels which is valued at 4 billion dollars. In todays market the heavy crude may sell at $45/barrel which means $1.3 Billion receipts. Not one stinking million dollar a year reporter/journalist called it out!
Michael! I know you get upset when we don’t read your articles – and honestly, I just get busy!!
Today’s article was great! I love that you brought in some history, especially when it’s one of the forefathers… call me a sucker for simple, witty, ingenuity— I also have a weird crush on Benjamin Franklin. A historical perspective, witty philosophy, and the insight of the moron – I think that’s a winning combo !!

We should heed their advice.
Great review of the reality.Thank you.

Very wrong for sure.

Nailed it again! Trump's a moron, plain and simple!

Bravo Michael. One of your best articles. Thank you for using the term Piracy. That really sums this up.
Very well reasoned, written, with lots of humor for this dangerous time. I give this overview of the Trump Meets Oil Fizzle Five Stars Michael.
With Don the Con, it’s not even well said.
They know a Trump grift when they see one. Love this article Michael.
