"Justice Isn’t Blind — It’s Been Blindfolded"

Donald J. Trump is not just overreaching. He is steamrolling every barrier, bulldozing every institution, and daring the Constitution to stop him. His second term isn’t about policy; it’s about raw power. And the message is clear: checks and balances are for losers.

If Trump’s first term was a slow erosion of norms, his second is starting out as a full-blown demolition project. Within the first 100 days, we’ve seen a blitz of executive actions so extreme, so unhinged, and so nakedly autocratic, it’s not just an assault on the democratic process; it’s a referendum on whether we have a functioning democracy left at all.

Let’s start where the rot is most visible: the Department of Justice. When Trump ordered the dismissal of federal corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, it wasn’t just a political favor; it was a litmus test. Would the Justice Department obey, even when the law said otherwise? Six prosecutors, including Acting U.S. Attorney Danielle Sassoon, said “hell no”, and resigned in protest. The charges weren’t bogus. The prosecutors followed every rule. Even the judge confirmed there was no misconduct. But Trump didn’t care about the facts. He cared about control.

And that’s the pattern. Obedience over integrity. Loyalty over law. The Justice Department, once an independent pillar of American governance, is now a rotted-out shell; a weaponized extension of Trump’s personal vengeance.

It didn’t stop there. Trump’s immigration overreach has turned into a humanitarian disaster. In March, a Salvadoran man; Kilmar Abrego Garcia, was mistakenly deported, despite having legal protections and a court order halting his removal. Trump’s DHS ignored the courts, disregarded due process, and sent him away. When pressed to explain, the administration offered a shrug and more chaos. The message? The courts don’t matter. The Constitution doesn’t matter. Trump’s will is the only law.

On the domestic front, Trump’s war on American institutions continues. He’s used the federal budget not to govern, but to punish. Diversity, equity, and inclusion programs? Slashed. Affinity graduations at universities like Harvard and Columbia? Canceled. Not because of legal necessity; but because Trump doesn’t like them. Because they challenge his worldview. Because they empower people he would rather keep marginalized.

What we’re seeing isn’t policy. It’s ideological purging, dressed up as governance.

And if you think the overreach is limited to the U.S., think again. Trump’s renewed trade tariffs have ignited protests across the globe. From Tokyo to Jakarta, workers will march today, calling it May Day; not just against inflation, but against the economic tremors Trump’s America is sending worldwide. His ego-driven economic warfare has destabilized markets and undermined diplomatic relationships built over decades.

Meanwhile, inside his administration, agencies are bleeding talent. Scientists, economists, diplomats, career military officials; all fleeing a White House where dissent equals disloyalty and where policy is made not with data, but with vengeance and gut instinct. Trump isn’t draining the swamp. He’s burning the whole ecosystem to the ground.

And the terrifying part? It’s by design.

Trump doesn’t see government as a system of limits. He sees it as an instrument of dominance. The presidency isn’t a responsibility; it’s a crown. The Constitution isn’t a guide; it’s an obstacle. And the voters? They’re props in a pageant of authoritarian fantasy.

In just three short months, Trump has made one thing painfully clear: there are no boundaries he won’t cross, no institution he won’t corrupt, and no law he won’t twist if it means expanding his grip on power. The examples aren’t isolated; they’re a pattern. A strategy. A doctrine of overreach.

This isn’t a presidency. It’s a test. Of our laws. Of our institutions. Of our will.

And if we don’t push back; forcefully, relentlessly, and without apology, then we’ve already answered the question this referendum demands:

We’ve allowed one man to reach too far. And we did nothing to stop him.
