"Lack of Answers: Welcome to Trump’s America"
The Trump playbook is clear: when in doubt, lie and hope the poorly educated; his preferred demographic, will believe whatever he and his enablers feed them.
It’s only been 68 days since Donald Trump took office, but already, his administration has proven to be a mess of catastrophic proportions. While the nation holds its breath over the fallout from his enablers latest debacle; one that endangers national security and puts military lives at risk, we find ourselves asking the question: Will anyone ever be held accountable for this colossal blunder?
Let’s start with the facts as we know them; though, let’s be honest, with Trump’s track record, truth isn’t exactly his strong suit. Jeffrey Goldberg, a journalist who serves as the editor in chief of The Atlantic, has been dragged into this mess; entirely by accident. Goldberg was included in a Signal chain that was allegedly initiated by Representative Mike Walz. Goldberg doesn’t harbor some or any personal vendetta against Trump; in fact, he’s one of the few journalists who can be trusted to report the truth. So why does Trump’s camp want to spin this into something it’s not? Why the cover-up?
The real issue at hand is the classification of the information in question. Trump and his team have refused to provide a definitive answer about whether this material is classified, but here’s the kicker: only the President can declassify information. That means, if Trump says something’s declassified, it’s declassified. And if he’s not saying anything, we’re left in the dark. So, we have to ask; why won’t Trump just be transparent with the American people? Could it be that the truth is too inconvenient for his narrative?
The Trump playbook is clear: when in doubt, lie and hope the poorly educated; his preferred demographic, will believe whatever he and his enablers feed them. It’s a strategy that’s worked for him before, but now, with national security on the line, it’s a dangerous game to play. And, it appears that Americans, all Americans, aren’t just sitting back and accepting these non-responsive responses. We’re talking about military plans and possibly sensitive intelligence that could be compromised, and yet Trump and his cronies are circling the wagons, offering no concrete answers. The question we are all asking ourselves is, why is transparency so difficult for them?
The GOP, of course, is complicit in all this. We’ve seen this show before: deflect, distract, and deny any wrongdoing. It’s the same strategy they’ve used to avoid addressing every major failure of the previous Trump administration, and now, as we look at what could be an unprecedented risk to our security, they’re doing it again. If the GOP really cared about the truth, they wouldn’t be blocking members of Congress from accessing crucial information. They wouldn’t be controlling the narrative by refusing to release the full details. But here we are; back in the same place where the GOP, as always, seeks to protect Trump at all costs.
Who cares about the Signal chat?, GOP members regurgitate like overfed toddlers. They respond with, Trump authorized and we accomplished a major strike against the Houthis to ensure safe passage of vessels. Be happy with just that. That we should be thanking President Trump for his swift, decisive and brave actions. That the previous Biden administration was incompetent and if he was still President, this never would have happened. So, shut the fuck up and show some gratitude for the greatest President ever!
So, what can we do about this? A lot, actually. There are three critical special elections on the horizon that could change the balance of power in Congress and provide the first real chance at holding the GOP accountable. On April 1, Florida holds two special elections, and on September 23, Arizona will have one. Why do these elections matter? Because the GOP’s razor-thin majority could be flipped, and flipping these seats could mean the difference between a Congress that serves the American people and one that’s more interested in protecting Trump and his disastrous agenda. What’s stopping us from demanding change right now?
The American people need answers. Why was sensitive information shared with a journalist who was merely included by accident? Why does the GOP refuse to release this information to Congress, the very body tasked with oversight? And most importantly, why won’t Trump take responsibility for his actions? The GOP is more interested in shielding him from the fallout, but it’s time for us to step up. These special elections represent our chance to hold the GOP accountable; or merely, to get answers.
It’s no longer enough to sit back and wait for Congressional hearings controlled by GOP chairmen who will likely run interference and avoid asking the tough questions. The Democrats cannot do it alone. These special elections offer us a direct route to flipping the balance of power and pushing for real accountability. Will we sit on the sidelines, or will we demand the truth and hold the GOP’s feet to the fire?
The clock is ticking. The stakes are high. And it’s up to us to make the change we need. Let’s not wait any longer; let’s act now, and ensure that these special elections aren’t just about changing a few seats, but about changing the future of this country.
