You say say Trump measures character? How on earth is someone who lacks any positive character traits measure the character of others?

Two untrustworthy entities participating in negotiations.

Trump has NO character. He surrounds himself with losers, shills, and stupid loyalists. He believes these stupid people make him look smart. The more they suck up to him, the more damage he does to our county.

Jennifer Kass's avatar

This whole piece is about how Trump cannot stand when people do to him what he has done to others for pretty much his whole life. "He is far more dangerous when he believes he has been deceived than when he believes he has been opposed." When he has been deceived?!? His whole life is a deception perpetrated against others. I'm still waiting for that healthcare plan that's coming in two weeks.

Yep, DJT is demented, devious, amoral, a heartless, soulless nihilist who has spent his entire life fabricating and scheming a false image of himself and manipulating others. He’s a cult leader of the highest order!

He is evil incarnate, a weapon of mass destruction. And he lives for and relishes in doing harm to others.

I’m simply baffled by Michael’s post, because one would expect him, of all people, to know that, from firsthand experience.

Doreen Peri's avatar

I was going to say the exact same thing that Adele said about character.

Michael, thank you for your continuing insights into Trump. I find myself having to disagree, however with your sense of who is betraying who who is embarrassing who. Please. Trump got taken to the cleaners, and now he’s lying about it and now Vance is lying about it and they will continue to lie about it. They will do everything they can to appear not to have been taken to the cleaners because if they lose both houses in Congress in November, they will all be impeached on charges of warcrimes, convicted and removed from office and they know it. You are, famously a loving father, so I was quite surprised that you made no mention of the slaughtered 140 middle school girls whose killing on the first day of his war Trump tried to blame on Iran. Trumpβ€˜s wind up toy alcoholic who runs the war department created an emotional space pushing for the most extreme actions by our military and to me, that’s the madness that’s the area of greatest volatility. If Trump is unhappy right now it is self-inflicted. He got taken to the rodeo by BB encouraged by the brutal idiot alcoholic Secretary of War and then taken to the cleaners by the Mullahs. Now, if Trump loses it again, and the strait is shut down again before all those hundreds of oil tankers and fertilizer ships can get out, global economic calamity, and spreading starvation will ultimately follow.

β€œNow, if Trump loses it again, and the strait is shut down again before all those hundreds of oil tankers and fertilizer ships can get out, global economic calamity, and spreading starvation will ultimately follow.”

And unfortunately, perhaps that’s the whole scheme, demented Donny’s long term goal - to prove to the world that he’s β€œthe BOSS” as he declared at the G7 meeting. And to prove that if he wants to burn the whole thing down, he simply will.

And in the meantime, the most lawless, corrupt, incompetent, vengeful POTUS in US history will continue to manipulate the stock markets so that he and his cronies can makes $millions/billions in profits from the chaos.

Who’s going to stop him?

The felon hates Obama with a passion as he hates every Democrat and any non white. Thats what fascists do. Not to mention his perception of history is at grade school level capacity if that. Anyone with a functioning brain knows the JCPOA was working, sanctions were working, and there was no imminent danger of the US being nuked. We know that the felon is trigger happy to invade and upend countries he wants as his play toys with oil as the big bonus. This was a failed attempt to do what he did in Venezuela. After plucking Meduro and having his way, Iran was next. Easy, right? Not so fast. You screw with the Middle East, you screw with never ending consequences. He bit off more than he can chew, with no way out other than to have Iran come out on top. The felon’s actions have now cost the global free trade market the benefit of The Freedoms Of The Seas in place since post WW2. This is how smart the felon is. He backed himself into a losing corner with his malignant narcissistic ego. His legacy is now forever tainted as the bully that couldn’t, the loser of epic proportions, the fascist that failed. All because he wanted to use our military as his toy soldiers. And he does not give one shit that 13 service members are dead and 400 are injured. We care about that. We feel these losses. We feel the pain of their loved ones.

And what was it all for? Nothing but his pathetic narcissistic ego.

Michael said, "Iran appears to be walking directly into that trap." Seriously Michael? WHO walked into a trap? WHO overplayed their hand? WHO "doesn't have the cards"? I cannot imagine what distorted fun-house mirror Michael is looking in to interpret this situation as one where IRAN walked into a trap. In every way, they have tricked the WH idiocracy due to their legendary ignorance and puffery. Linda is right; DJT is playing a game and outclassed at every turn. I fail to see the negotiating brilliance that Michael portrays.

Linda's avatar

How could I even forget to mention the fact that Macron got the felon to sign this agreement at the very place where Germany surrendered with The Treaty Of Versailles?

Epic embarrassment for the felon and he wasn’t even smart enough to connect those dots.

Maritime fees exist today because Donald J Trump made one of the worst foreign policy blunders in history. He blasted into a sovereign nation with no plan and no expert advisors. He thought that this β€œexcursion” would be β€œVenezuela 2.0” and it turned out to be something entirely different. TRUMP is that negotiator who signs agreements with one hand and reaches for additional concessions(and into the pockets of others) with the other hand. Iran DOES view this as a victory, and rightly so. They called Trump’s bluff and …he folded. And of course Israel is livid about this arrangement, they were not fully involved, they never agreed to stop attacking Iran’s proxies in the region, and Trump made this β€œdeal” without their input or agreement. You know Trump as well as anyone, Michael, you know that all the absurd posts in the world won’t get you back into his good graces. He is a terrible man and you are well quit of him, if you can keep it.

Heather M's avatar

Michael, one might say that the dumb fucking piece of shit, who scrapped a deal just because it was brokered by a man whose legacy of decency, intelligence, popularity and regard on the world stage he knew he could never live up to and then started a completely unwinnable war so that he and his oligarch buddies could make a buck, is the one β€œplaying with fire.” But you won’t say that because you still can’t help but suck up to him. Your insistence on portraying the dim witted Orange Puddle of Smegma as some kind of master negotiator is laughable. He is a failed businessman, who declared bankruptcy countless times. He is nothing more than a scheming, scamming con man who, I would argue, is now up against someone who sees through HIM to his weakness, gullibility, and complete and utter incompetence. He has met his match. And because of that worthless piece of shit the world suffers. I truly hope that the next β€œattempt” on his life is a.) an actual, real attempt, and b.) successful, because his arrogance, incompetence, ignorance, hate, and his general inability to act like anything other than a pissy little toddler who just shit his pants, is dragging this country and the world headlong into ruination.

And in an extremely personal note, Trump then Michael under the bus and Michael went to PRISON!

AND Donald Trump actually made sexually suggestive and inappropriate remarks about Cohen's 15-year-old daughter during a 2012 incident at Trump's Bedminster, New Jersey golf club!

β€œTrump’s attention was diverted to another skirt walking off a tennis court. β€˜Look at that piece of a–,’ Cohen recalls Trump saying, as he whistled and pointed,” according to Vanity Fair. β€œβ€˜I would love some of that.’ It so happened that Trump was referring to Cohen’s then 15-year-old daughter, Samantha.”

Your ex boss has fucked up the global economy and global security by poking at a hornet's nest. There is no going back. We are not getting the nuke "dust" out. We will not be able to keep eyes on them developing or enriching their stocks especially after handing them 325+ BILLIONS. On top of that oil and commerce had zero problems traversing the SOH before this goddamn war. Now it will forever be a different story. So I ask you what exactly have we accomplished??

I'm not the only one who is sick of the demented orange menace. It has to be removed from society and put somewhere it can't keep destroying us

Heather M's avatar

No. According to Michael those of us who feel that way, who can’t a knowledge the greatness before us, who simply REFUSE to see the good the Orange Puddle of Smegma is doing, who can’t appreciate what a master negotiator Smegma is, have Trump Derangement Syndrome. It’s not him, it’s us. Michael did a whole substack about it a couple weeks ago.

After Mr. Cohen's praise of trump in his previous essay and now the continued illogical defense of him in this writing, I am truly believing that we have been scammed by trump's puppy. Months we have been spent reading what we know to be true, that trump is nothing but a demented, greedy, power-hungry piece of human excrement. Now, seemingly suddenly, he is being portrayed as a brilliant strategist who knows everything about negotiating and how others are deceitful. Seriously, Mr. Cohen, well-played. We actually believed the leopard had changed his spots and you had seen the light. Now it seems like your long end game was to lure us in, get paid for it and then try to somehow convince us the orange monster had it right all along. I believed you. I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I fear we were all wrong. Our current potus is no more of a rocket scientist than he has ever been. He is sick in every way possible, and hopefully very soon will be removed from office, impeached, indicted and criminally convicted. What remains to be seen is which side you will ultimately be aligned with.

Michael Cohen's avatar

I have stated many times, on this platform and in the press, that I stand by POTUS’ position that Iran must never possess a nuke. In fact, every president since Carter have stated the same. You can question me all you want. I truly don’t give a shit. You are entitled to your position and I don’t ask you permission for me to have mine.

I’m both baffled and stunned by this post.

DJT threw Michael under the bus and Michael WENT TO PRISON!

And, in fact, β€œin his 2020 memoir, Disloyal: A Memoir, Michael Cohen alleged that Donald Trump made several lewd and inappropriate comments about his daughter, Samantha, at a New Jersey golf club in 2012 when she was 15 years old.”

AND, According to Cohen’s account detailed in Vanity Fair, the incident involved the following details:

- Trump unknowingly pointed at Samantha as she was walking off a tennis court, called her a "piece of ass," and stated he would "love some of that".

- When Cohen informed Trump that she was his daughter, Trump allegedly responded, "When did she get so hot?"

- Trump subsequently approached Samantha, asked her for a kiss on the cheek, and warned her that in a few years he would be dating one of her friends.

In interviews, Samantha Cohen corroborated that Trump made crude and demeaning comments to her and about her father during that encounter. The Trump administration dismissed the claims at the time, calling Cohen a "disgraced felon" who was attempting to profit from lies.”

So, at this point, how in the world could Michael possibly defend Trump?!?!?

"He has spent his entire life negotiating against people who sign agreements with one hand while reaching for additional concessions with the other. Whether in real estate, politics, or foreign affairs, he interprets that behavior as bad faith. The moment he concludes that someone is playing him, the negotiation changes.

Iran appears to be walking directly into that trap."

Really Michael? Trump began this war by dropping bombs *while at the negotiating table* for the very agreement that he has now spent billions to accomplish. The notion that *he* is being played?

Then there is the small matter of what can he actually do if he does have a petulant moment? More of the same as he was, say, last week? Who has the cards?

Very telling insights into DJT's personality in situations like we are seeing develop with Iran. One of many aspects that I am wondering about is that DJT started the ill-conceived conflict in part to divert attention from the Epstein situation (as well as his poor polling numbers) and while it was partially successful, events are still moving forward. He also wanted to project strength, we see how poorly that went at the G7! My point is that every aspect of Trump's power orbit is in decline or chaos. Trump is simply not getting the level of positive adulations to meet his narcissistic needs, even from Fox News and other right wing media. Looking back at his track record it appears to me that the threat of him trying to "win" in this type environment is even more dangerous than you describe. His apparent dementia as well as his other apparent health issues are probably ratcheting up his anxiety levels in every dimension. I sincerely hope someone has clipped the wires to the "nuclear button" that I fear his swollen and bruised hand is hovering over in response to the aspects you have described in terms of his response to Iran's tactics. If he senses his end is near the few remaining self-preservation impulses may be gone.

I don’t trust Iran. The world doesn’t trust Iran so why would that orange fool in the oval even attempt to trust Iran? I am sick to death of all of the promises, the two week bullshit, we are very close to an agreement , the Straits of Hormuz is opening, we have the upper hand and we have destroyed their army, navy, marines and Girl Scouts. It’s all hogwash. He couldn’t control a kindergarten class let alone a country that has been torturing us for 47 years. I’m sick of it all.

Steve Forman's avatar

What the eff is wrong with you Michael? The only one who will get burned here is Trump and unfortunately all of us. Because of his unneeded war, Trump has given Iran all of the cards as he likes to say. Why are they proposing charging fees for something that was free before? Because they can. Who is going to stop them? Nobody wants to risk losing soldiers or the amount of money it would cost to ensure free passage. Should have just kept the JCPOA and tried to make it better. This ends badly for all of us.

Heather Grant's avatar

MIchael, it sounds as if you think Trump is in the driver's seat. As we have all seen with this embarrassing MoU, he is not. I do not think his annoyance will make any difference in what happens. Anyway, since you wrote this, Israel has killed many Lebanese, so everything is back in limbo vis a vis the agreement.

Jane B's avatar

Trump poked the bear when he levied the unprovoked attack on Iran. No one disputes that Iran should not have any nuclear weapons. The JCPOA was in place. Could it have been revised and beefed up? Probably. Why not bring the key players to the table and talk through the elements of concern before you physically attack the counter-party. Isn’t that how negotiations usually go?

I think Trump is playing a dangerous chess game. I don’t see the terms of the MOU holding and I foresee an increase in the violence, the damage on multiple levels (physical, economically), and loss of life. I hope not, but it’s a real possibility when the bear is angry.
