"Poisoning The Truth"
One senator's tragic death exposed how fear, foreign propaganda, and reckless social media turned fiction into perceived fact, proving truth remains democracy's most valuable defense.
Before I get into today’s subject, let me say thank you.
The launch of my new 77WABC radio show, When You Know...You Know, exceeded every expectation I had. The ratings absolutely crushed for the hour. The phones never seemed to stop ringing. The call in board lit up during our newest segment, The Tired Majority, where listeners threw everything at me from politics to policy to personal questions. Then came the Fake News segment, and the comments flooded the platform faster than my producers could keep up.
It was loud. It was passionate. It was exactly what I hoped it would become.
Of course, there were critics.
There always are.
If you are doing anything meaningful, someone will tell you that you are doing it wrong. If you tell uncomfortable truths, someone will accuse you of having an agenda. If enough people start paying attention, someone else inevitably starts trying to distract them.
That brings me to what unfolded early this morning.
If you spent even five minutes scrolling through social media, you probably saw the claim. According to thousands of posts, Senator Lindsey Graham did not die from natural causes. Instead, the internet decided that Iran had somehow developed a delayed acting poison, slipped it into his system during or after his recent trip to Ukraine, and quietly assassinated one of America’s most recognizable senators.
Within hours the story had exploded.
Then it became even more ridiculous.
Accounts claiming connections to Iran celebrated the rumor. Others attributed statements to the IRGC suggesting responsibility. Anonymous influencers declared this was only the beginning. The speculation quickly shifted from Lindsey Graham to warnings that President Trump and other American officials would be next because of recent military actions against Iran and the death of the former Supreme Leader.
Millions of Americans suddenly found themselves wondering whether the United States had entered a new chapter of covert biological warfare.
Except none of it was true.
Not one bit of it.
The preliminary findings from the Medical Examiner of the District of Columbia concluded that Senator Graham died from an aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. In simple English, there was a tear in the wall of his aorta brought on by hardened arteries. Emergency dispatch records reflected a cardiac emergency at his Capitol Hill residence. It was a tragic medical event, not an international assassination.
That matters.
It matters because facts still matter.
We have reached a dangerous point where people no longer wait for evidence. They wait only long enough to find someone willing to confirm what they already want to believe.
Think about how quickly this story traveled.
Within minutes complete strangers who possess absolutely no medical expertise suddenly became forensic pathologists. Others became intelligence officers. Some became chemical weapons experts. Everyone somehow had exclusive information that nobody else possessed.
The truth never had a chance.
This is exactly how fake news evolves today.
It no longer requires a newspaper printing something false.
It no longer requires a television network making a mistake.
Now all it takes is one anonymous account, a handful of influencers chasing clicks, thousands of people reposting without thinking, and an algorithm that rewards fear over facts.
Fear travels at the speed of light.
Truth still has to put its shoes on.
I have spent years talking about misinformation. Sometimes it comes from political operatives. Sometimes it comes from partisan media. Sometimes it comes from foreign governments trying to manipulate public opinion.
Iran understands psychological warfare.
Russia understands psychological warfare.
China understands psychological warfare.
Their objective is not always convincing Americans of one specific lie.
Sometimes their goal is simply convincing Americans that nobody can tell the difference between truth and fiction anymore.
Once that happens, democracy begins eating itself.
The irony is almost laughable if it were not so dangerous.
Many of the same people who tell everyone else to stop believing fake news will repost an outrageous claim without spending thirty seconds verifying it. They become unpaid distributors for the very propaganda they claim to oppose.
Congratulations.
You just became someone else’s useful idiot.
I have disagreed with Lindsey Graham on countless issues over the years. I have criticized him publicly when I believed he deserved it. That is politics.
Death is different.
His life deserves honesty.
His family deserves honesty.
The American people deserve honesty.
Graham’s career was complicated, like most careers in public life. He evolved politically. He went from one of Donald Trump’s harshest Republican critics to one of his closest allies. He became one of the Senate’s leading voices on national security, Ukraine, Iran, Israel, and Russia. He maintained friendships across party lines even while fighting bitter political battles. Whether you admired him or opposed him, nobody can erase decades of public service with an internet conspiracy invented before the medical examiner even completed the initial report.
There is another lesson here.
The next time you read something that immediately makes your blood pressure rise, stop.
Read it again.
Ask who benefits from you believing it.
Ask whether there is actual evidence.
Ask whether legitimate reporting supports it.
Ask whether someone is manipulating your emotions because frightened people are easier to control than informed people.
That is what critical thinking looks like.
It is not glamorous.
It is not viral.
It is rarely trending.
But it remains one of the last defenses we have against those who profit from chaos.
So thank you again for making “When You Know...You Know” such an extraordinary success. The response reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. Not to tell people what to think, but to encourage them to think. Because when you know, you know. And when you do not know, the smartest thing you can do is refuse to let fear fill in the blanks.

MORE THAN 550,000 PEOPLE READ MY ARTICLES THIS WEEK ALONE.
SO, WHERE ARE YOU?
I AM ASKING EACH OF YOU TO RESTACK, LIKE AND SHARE.
IT’S REALLY THAT EASY.
HELP US TO REBUILD AND GROW OUR COMMUNITY!
Yeah, I know; you’re tired. This shit is exhausting.
Guess what? Me too.
But I’ve spent the last 8 years throwing punches in the dark so truth could get a little daylight. And now I’m asking you to step into the ring with me.
Because if you’re still reading this, you already get it:
This isn’t just a newsletter. It’s a rally cry. A war drum. A line in the sand.
We are not passive observers of the downfall. We are the resistance. We call out the liars. We drag corruption by the collar into the sunlight. We say the quiet parts out loud; and we don’t flinch.
But here’s the truth: I can’t do this solo. Not anymore.
The storm is already here. We are standing in it. And it’s wearing stars and stripes like camouflage, preaching “freedom” while it sells fascism at retail.
So let me ask you:
Are. You. In?
Because this is not a scroll-and-forget read. This is a living, breathing, fire-breathing movement; and movements don’t move unless you do.
We need to be louder than spin, tougher than propaganda, and impossible to gaslight.
That takes more than clicks. More than likes.
It takes skin in the game.
So if you believe truth matters; if you’re sick of the bullshit, if you’re ready to stop screaming into the algorithm and start pushing back with purpose, this is your next step.
HERE’S HOW YOU PUT YOUR FOOT ON THE GAS:
Become a paid subscriber. Fund fearless, unfiltered journalism that hits back.
Share this with the loudest people you know; the ones who never sit down and shut up.
Build the community. Amplify the message. Be the damn megaphone.
And yeah; Founding Members? The first 240 of you will get a signed, numbered, limited-edition Substack version of Revenge. That’s not just a collector’s item. That’s receipts. Proof you didn’t sit this one out.
But let’s be clear:
This isn’t about a book.
It’s about backbone.
It’s about calling out the gaslighters and refusing to be played.
It’s about locking arms and saying, “Not. On. Our. Watch.”
You want to make a difference?
Then make it; right now.
Because if we don’t fight for truth, no one will.
But if we fight together?
They can’t drown us out.
Let’s be so loud, they wish we were just angry tweets.
Let’s be unshakable.
Unignorable.
Un-fucking-breakable.
Let’s go!

LG's death wasn't tragic. 9/11 was tragic; the death of young parents or children is tragic. He was an elderly sot who had a nice, quick death. If people expose themselves to ridiculous propoganda after a senator's death, that's their problem. I don't have to make it mine. I never wished the man harm but at the same time, am hoping that deaths DO come in threes and I already have the next two on my list.
Great article! Though I'd argue that democracy has been "eating itself" since Maga reared it's ugly head. But you are so right, rumors, conspiracy theories, they move faster than lightning. You've been on the receiving end more times than we want to recall. I don't always see eye to eye on things like foreign affairs, and I greatly dislike American aggression on the world stage; so I push back in 90% of my comments lately. I do want to say I'm so happy about the radio show, its more your lane where you can be candid. People really do want to know more. Your goal has always been to mend the rift and maybe help the right see things a little differently. I'm very proud of you, even though most of us have never spoke with you in person many of us feel we know your story. We've watched your journey. My mantra when things get rough, is " What would Michael do" seriously man, you are unstoppable. Now of course the gossip and rage bait machine is on about how Cohen flipped and is now besties with Trump again simply because after all the b.s you went through the orange man has acknowledged you. You know better than anyone that Trump has a charisma others cannot emulate, he's a master manipulator, just always remember, don't get too close to the fire. You were burned badly last time. Glad you still take time out of your even busier days now to write your substack. Have a great day!
