The constitutional right to protest doesn't mean shit if exercising it gets you beaten and dragged away by federal agents with zero accountability.

This is exactly how it starts, and we're letting it happen again.

I struggle with this one. Are we letting it happen nonchalantly with certain socioeconomic classes just continuing with their lives? Or are we letting it happen because we are aware choices are limited so we stay outraged until the correct time? Or are we simply outraged and letting it happen for the moment and then retreat to the perceived safety of our lives?

The fact that someone can beat and drag you away with zero accountability doesn't mean you shouldn't protest. It means you need to go in with your eyes open about what the current rules actually are (as opposed to what they're supposed to be), what documentation you need if something happens, and what your household continuity plan is if you don't come home.

That's not defeatism, I think it's informed resistance.

I support people who want to organize in a collective action. I support people who need to protect their families first. I think these are legitimate responses.

One day soon, someone will shoot back. Maybe a lone wolf. But a wolf nonetheless. It may be what "they" want to happen, but methinks it's inevitable. So, if one is afraid now, just imagine what it will be like then. Be prepared.

Does anyone remember...Kent State (1970)

The National Guard opened fire on unarmed student protesters, killing four. The operational shift was visible beforehand: Governor Rhodes called protesters "worse than the brownshirts" and declared he would "eradicate" them. Then came live ammunition.

I just mentioned Kent State on another site. Reagan lost a lot of support for that one. Too late to use it against him, it still influenced the country to get out of the war. I remember seeing the kids' bodies, stretched out where they fell, and other students running to attend to them. We are there now, all over again.

I have an article coming out on Thursday contrasting Kent State, Selma, and Minneapolis. Please subscribe so you don't miss it.

This has gotten so out of control I’m frightened that we won’t be able to reverse this. People have the right to say no. Our constitution declares this. ICE is the American Gestapo. Trump is becoming Hitler. Will the midterms even be able to stop this? I had such high hopes. Now I’m too frightened to be so sure. We can’t let this keep going on. We will lose our country. Thank you Michael for always keeping us updated by telling us as it is and not sugar coating it.

Barb O's avatar

It doesn't pay to be frightened. You obviously have thought about what things could be like if we don't do anything. Focus on that. As FDR said, there is nothing to fear but fear itself. You are not alone.

I completely agree; people, and especially those who are SUPPOSED to uphold the law, absolutely have the right to say no. The people, collectively, need to say loudly "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore". This administration is pure evil. Hitler was universally despised and hated; if Trump wants that for his own image, he is surely going about it the right way.

That's what scares me.... and the decades if not a century it will take to clean this up and get back our democracy

They have no intention of calming down or deescalating after Minnesota. They apply this unchecked force against children without restraint. Thank you for keeping us apprised.

Where is this all gong to end? In NY the governor is going to court to ensure that the police do not have to assist ICE with protestors . She said to be sure they will assist in the case of a real criminal. I blieve this has to happen all over the country . When ICE commits a crime they should be arrested by local law enforcement. I know we will probably end up in a civil war. But we have to protect people ..Thank You Michael and Thank You Pam. lost in america

It is so disgusting that they launch the tear gas at all. But to launch it towards children is the lowest of the lows. We have the right to protest peacefully. We will continue to show up, speak out, and hope that the individual states will be able to stop this disgusting regime. Thank you for speaking up, and speaking out Michael.

We won't give up; we won't give in. This is OUR country, ALL of us. It doesn't belong to the dictator, nor the oligarchs, nor the ICE goons. We will speak up, stand up, and take back our country.

Trump wants an insurrection, it’s plan A for cancelling the elections. It won’t stop until your military do their job. No sign of that.

I always knew this would occur but no one wanted to listen to me. Being a child of an European immigrant, I grew up hearing stories what transpired in Europe during the Nazi invasions. My eyes were wide open when Trump reclaimed the White House. I heard his speeches during the campaign rallies. I guess not enough were listening and in complete denial it would ever happen in the USA. Well, it's here now and there's not a lot we can do at this point. It wasn't just me warning people, there were Europeans warning us as well. I read countless comments on social media with warnings. I guess Americans presumed the military would save us or our political leaders? Sadly that is not the case. Our constitutional rights are disappearing before our eyes and no one will stop it, they are just falling in line with the regime.

Very few were listening when I went to doors in 2024. Many men seemed to object to voting for a woman. Many of them, especially young men, tried to exit in a hurry, and didn’t want to admit their leanings.

Suddenly there was much interest in our docs last election cycle, and all of our local Dems, including state judges, were successful.

Joanne Gatsis's avatar

Yes, the men who objected to voting for a woman and a black woman at that. Seemed stupid to me back then. I wonder what these men are thinking now? FAFO?

Another great MC story I've not seen covered elsewhere, and I follow a metric f*ckton of independent media streams. i'll try to boost the signal. hooray for Pamtifa! thank you so much Michael for bringing her on today, I watched her recent J6 testimony before the Senate and was quite moved by her courage and sincerity; she is a true American hero. I will most definitely be there live! (well, much as i can anyway, given it might overlap a bit with a doc appt 🤕)

Parkrose Permaculture, who lives in Portland, was there. She posts regularly on YouTube and, I guess TikTok. Also had videos. Follow here postings to stay in the loop about Portland.

igor isa's avatar

you know is funny, I just realized that even though I've watched literally dozens of her videos on YT, I have no idea what her actual name or nickname is, like Idk what to call her beyond ParkRose Permaculture... does she ever refer to herself by some other name that I have somehow missed?

igor isa's avatar

yes!! adore her. I watch her vids frequently when I get on YouTube, which I do less n less as I find more n more of my favorite YT casters here on substack. mostly cuz it helps reduce my exposure to commercial propaganda 😵‍💫

It won't be long before trump uses the " Bashar al-Assad" attacks on the protestors. If you don't know what that means, look it up.

Leslie's avatar

I agree; Trump is definitely heading in the same direction as Bassar al-Assad. It is horrific, and evil.

I was under the impression that ICE left Portland, Oregon months ago. Did they return or did they never leave? ICE needs to be defunded and dismantled. And send CBP back to the border where they belong. And none of this the border extends 100 miles away from the actual border.

I’m moving to Portland next week. I’m a 76-year-old grandmother and I will be on the front lines. I will leave my grandchildren home. When I know what’s going on in the world, I can’t sit all day and play games with the children. I know the truth, and I will make it rise like the sun and the moon.😔

The administration will continue doing this until they can justify invoking the Insurrection Act and cancel elections.
