"The Art of the Deal… Ukrainian Style"
What if Zelenskyy did his homework and anticipated exactly what Trump would do? The rest of the world is siding with Ukraine!
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy walked into the Oval Office with a smirk hidden behind his diplomatic mask. He knew the script. Everyone knows it by now. Trump’s tantrums, the veiled threats, the performative outrage; it was all theater. But this time, Zelenskyy, the actor, wasn’t just playing along. He was directing the show.
Zelenskyy’s calculus was simple: Trump’s ego is a weapon, and Europe’s collective spine is the shield. While Trump ranted about “gratitude” and starting “World War III”, Zelenskyy let the cameras roll, knowing every raised voice and interruption would be broadcasted to a Europe already primed to rally. The EU’s emergency summit on March 6 wasn’t a coincidence; it was a contingency plan. Zelenskyy’s team had leaked enough to ensure Macron, Scholz, and Costa were ready to pounce.
When Zelenskyy quipped, “You have a nice ocean and don’t feel it now, but you will feel it in the future”, he wasn’t just trolling Trump. He was speaking directly to Europe’s existential dread. The line was a dagger aimed at Trump’s isolationist delusions, a reminder that Russia’s aggression isn’t a distant storm but a hurricane already battering Europe’s borders. Trump’s retort, “Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel”, was the tantrum of a man who still thinks geography is a personal choice.
Vice President Vance’s accusation that Zelenskyy was “lit this in of the media” (presumably “lit it up”) was the cherry on top. Here was the Vice Presiden, reduced to a conspiracy theorist, while Zelenskyy played the victim. Played it like an Oscar winnign performer. It was a masterclass in gaslighting. Vance’s rant about Zelenskyy campaigning for Democrats in Pennsylvania? A desperate deflection. The real campaign was Zelenskyy’s; winning Europe’s hearts and minds while Trump alienated allies.
The mineral agreement was never about resources. It was a test. Would Trump prioritize short-term gains over Ukraine’s survival? Zelenskyy knew the answer. By finalizing the deal, he locked the U.S. into a transactional relationship, forcing Trump to either follow through or look like a hypocrite. Meanwhile, Europe’s $21 billion military aid package was already in the works; a silent rebuke to Trump’s “we’re out” ultimatum.
When Macron demanded “security guarantees”, he wasn’t just talking to Trump. He was speaking to Zelenskyy’s team, who’d been quietly drafting alternatives to NATO membership. Europe’s leaders, tired of Trump’s “dialogue with Russia”, saw an opportunity. If the U.S. wouldn’t lead, they’d step up; even if it meant deploying troops under a “peacekeeper” flag, as Russia’s objections made clear.
Trump’s “dictator” smear was a gift, packaged in a beautiful, shiny gold box. Zelenskyy’s response? A tweetstorm about peace and security guarantees, positioning himself as the voice of reason. Meanwhile, Europe’s diplomats whispered about Trump’s “disinformation space”, a term Zelenskyy had coined to describe the Kremlin’s playbook. The irony wasn’t lost on anyone: Trump, the man who’d praised Putin’s “genius,” was now parroting Russian talking points.
Zelenskyy’s early exit was also strategic. Let Trump stew in his own chaos. The next day, Europe’s leaders issued statements of solidarity, while Trump’s team scrambled to spin the meeting as “productive.” The rare earth deal? A footnote. An international joke. The real victory was Europe’s pivot; a tacit admission that Trump’s America was no longer a reliable ally. A time for someone new, or a group to become the world leader.
Incredibly, Zelenskyy didn’t just survive the meeting; he weaponized it. By anticipating and playing to Trump’s volatility, he turned a potential disaster into a rallying cry. Europe’s response? A $21 billion thank-you note, a summit to “decide the future of security”, and a collective 2 finger salute at Trump’s “diplomacy.” And, it didn’t even have to come with a lifetime of “thank you’s”.
In the end, Trump’s tantrums didn’t isolate Ukraine; they isolated Trump. Zelenskyy’s gamble paid off: Europe’s support, once a distant reach, is now a lifeline. A guarantee. And Trump? He’s left with a failed, rare earth deal and a legacy of being outmaneuvered by an actor, no, a “dictator” who knew how to play the game better. So que the music… and the Oscar goes to President Zelenskyy!

And a failed attempt to get a Nobel peace prize, which was the other end of the stick he was swishing around, like a ceremonial sword.
And look, the Nobel committee decided to give it to Zelenskyy! Good choice. Even Netanyahu and the pope got bypassed.
Thank you for writing this piece. It brought me a lot of peace this afternoon. And thanks for letting an unpaid subscriber comment. It means a lot!
Totally agree. Thanks for saying it. Zelensky is no dummy.
