When leaders excuse division instead of confronting hatred, violence follows, accountability disappears, and ordinary New Yorkers are left paying the price for reckless ideological extremism.
Fill in the blank. Instead of bringing people together, he fuels division - Trump not Mamdani. ah so we will sick the corrupt justice dept on NY now. Facts - Israel is responsible for genocide in Gaza and Lebanon and has caused most of the hate and violence directed at them. Bibi needs to vanish as much as Trump does
Bibi is a war criminal without question. Most of Israel does not support him and they can’t wait until he is voted out. I agree that the justice system is corrupt and untrustworthy, but the mayor is doing much damage here. Antisemitism is at an all time high.
Michelle, I feel it's bigger than anything Mandani could say or do. Antisemitism is horrifying. So many centuries of it. But I noticed the increase with more of the public becoming aware of Netanyahu's actions along the Gaza Strip. There was the horrifying attacks by Hamas on those innocents in Isreal, then Netanyahu's ongoing slaughter of families, equally innocent, civilians. Front page and center, for months. More people suddenly paid attention.
The problem, I feel, is that some people conflate the current actions of Netanyahu's policies with Jewish people. And I guess some Jews do support him.
But what would Anne Frank write in her diary, I wonder, or millions of others? A Palestinian girl may be writing, right now about it, if she has the resources. Watching families being killed and starved. People crushed together without enough food.
She would write exactly what I would write. Enough hatred. Enough antisemitism. Enough Islamophobia. Enough killing. Please let everyone live in peace and harmony. She would despise Netenyahu and she would despise terrorist groups. She would beg leaders not to promote hatred and suffering. She would pray that everyone regardless of religious beliefs would please just stop the fighting.
Okay, and the US is committing genocide in Iran and Iraq, Iran is committing genocide and Hamas in Iraq started the whole debacle by killing 1,200 + Jews and kidnapping others on October 7, 2023. Everyone who is anti Israel needs to look at the entire picture. No county is blameless. But let me ask you this Howard. If thugs invaded your home, killed your entire family and somehow you survived, what would your response be? I don't like any of these killings, but it seems to me like NO ONE is without blame so I wish everyone would stop dumping hatred just on Isreal. It only adds to the antisemitism.
I am Jewish - the attacks in Israel was terrible but Israel's response had been 5 times worse. Remember Israel knew of this attack and let it happen to fuel their war mongering
Howard, Netanyahu is a menace and has been for as long as he has been around. What Israel, under his government, has done in Gaza is despicable. I think most Jews around the world would agree. However, "most of the hate and violence" against Israel and all Jews has NOT been caused by this round of unspeakable horrors against the Palestinians. The hatred of the Jews has been around for 5000 years. Some other country has started every war that involves Israel. You don't remember that on October 7th, 2023, Hamas attacked concertgoers, killing 1200 and kidnapping 250 people? Whenever Israel gets attacked, the world's antisemitism always increases, and Israel is ultimately blamed.
As a Jewish New Yorker, I agree with your assessment that antisemitism is a horrible threat these days. What I don’t agree with is to whom you attribute the source of this antisemitism.
You said “leaders establish the political environment“. That’s absolutely true. And the political environment that we are living in was established by the leader of the country… Donald Trump. The hatred that he has sewn and the antisemitism that he has caused by his association with a criminal Benjamin Netanyahu is what has ignited the antisemitism worldwide. I’m not saying that I like Mamdani, but his election is actually largely due to the fact that the stoking of antisemitism was done by Trump and Netanyahu. It made the election of people such as you describing possible. And seriously… when you are counting on Harmeet Dillon to fix anything for you, you have lost the argument.
The words and actions of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani are just one part of a much larger issue contributing to rising antisemitism in New York City and across the country. However, your statement overlooks another major factor: the actions of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government in Gaza, which many critics and international organizations have described as involving a devastating humanitarian crisis and, in some cases, alleged genocide and territorial expansion at the expense of the Palestinian people.
You are a thousand percent correct. Netenyahu is a war criminal without question. He has created antisemitism across the world. It would be nice if the mayor recognized that all the Jewish people living in NYC are not part of the Israeli Government. We are just Jewish people living our lives.
You and Trump are so full of it . I live in NYC part of the time and No I don't see it. He endorsed Brad Lander . He is Jewish. Because Mamdani and a lot of New Yorkers including Jewish New Yorkers are against what Bibi is doing to Gaza and the West Bank doesn't make them an antisemites..The man who murdered those two men is most likely severely mentally ill. So stop it.
If you think Trump is coming into NY to investigate the Mayor you will only solidify the Mayors popularity. We will never have peace with you stirring the pot. The sad part is this is the one time when I believe you actually think this .
I agree that the mayor should stop condemning Israel. Netanyahu is the problem, not Jewish people in general. It is not helpful for our politicians to be taking sides of one country against another. Not all Americans are MAGAs and we hope the world sees that, so the same holds true in other countries as well. Power and greed are the enemy, not our neighbors.
Sorry Michael. But the Trump administration examining the conduct of the Mayor of New York city is like the pot calling the kettle black. Trump and this administration stroking hate and division is concerning and should be examined. Congress has been complicit! I hope that when the Democrats take back the House, Trump is examined. The United States deserve leaders who lower the temperature, reject hatred in all its forms, and unite the country rather than divide it. We need public servants who extinguish the flames of intolerance; not politicians who keep pouring fuel on the fire. This applies to Trump and his administration as well!!!!
Michael can't answer that question because he is compromised now. He wants back in trump's good graces for god only knows why. That's why he is agreeing with him to go after Mamdani now. Maybe he'll get his pardon with good behavior.
What is again lacking in your post are sources, quotes, links to back up your comments. One must have the facts - all the facts - to make decisions regarding your comments.
Mamdani does not have the right to inflame, but he has every right to be critical of injustice.
And all New Yorkers have every right to be highly skeptical - even suspicious - of the purpose of the federal government interfering in the affairs of an American City.
Are you aware that you curiously omitted any questioning of the purpose of this interference? IMO, this was a glaring omission. Why do you think you did that?
Dictators and Authoritarian Leaders use Racism, Xenophobia and Nationalism to Grab and Maintain their Powers.
We need to Focus on Democracy and how we are going to have the Majority in the Senate and House so we can make the needed changes. Have you had this discussion with People in your Life? Have you offered to help People get Registered, Drive them to the Polls, etc.?
Focus on Trump Epstein and Corruption. Not a Mayor you may or may not agree with.
If Mamdani continues on a Negative Path, he will be Voted out. That Simple.
Counter Destructive Words not with Anger, but with clear Facts and a Unified Voice for Good.
Speak Up , yes. Voice the Challenge and then Voice what is Right. With Actual Quotes, not Beliefs.
I've pulled my support and am unsubscribing. Just can't take your seemingly sudden change and wild swings you're making. Not the person I thought I was supporting!
Now do Trump. He has made direct negative and hateful/shameful comments against Somali immigrants, Haitian immigrants, women, Democrats etc. He doesn't even offer condolences when there is violence against them. The Mayor on the other hand constantly speaks out against violence against any race or religion. Nice try though. You are now simply an influencer for Trump. Because you can make more money. You are free to do that in the US, but you have fallen in my eyes. I once respected you for your enlightenment (also bought your book) - now I regard you as suspicious and I question your integrity.
Michael, just WOW! I've always appreciated your honesty, straightforwardness about your experiences and speaking truth about trump's inner circle. And now this...you seem to have flipped the script condemning Mamdani--another imperfect human (as we all are) but yet the only one lately who seems to be at least trying to do good for NY citizens. How can you even defend Netanyahu at this point? He's a murderer, a con, a Trump twin and I'm frankly confused as to where this is coming from. Did someone get to you?
You see what Trump has done. Many of his actions were taken to take the focus away from Epstein.
Chaos, Turn Hatred against Groups of People (Haitians, Immigrants, etc.), etc.
And Commentators and Journalist fell into the trap. Thank God for Independent Media
that has been ahead of the curve with information that the Corporate Media lagged on reporting or partially reported.
Let's focus on winning the Mid-Terms and Saving Our Democracy!
Abdul El-Sayed won in Michigan against the Democratic Establishment Haley Stevens. Abdul is a Political Outsider-Progressive! Exciting. Candidates like Mamdani and El-Sayed will change the Democratic Party and that is not all bad. Sometimes you have to look at the Bigger Picture?
This does not mean you don't call out Racism, Religious Intolerance, etc. But call it out with Facts. Not Feelings.
Also reported-the largest amount of People showed up to Vote in Michigan! Awesome!
An Asian man was also attacked. THIS brings up the issue that prejudice against any group will plant the seeds for prejudice against any other group. While Hitler's prejudice against Jews is well known, what is not as well known is that he also was prejudiced against Gypsies, Homosexuals, certain Christian sub groups like Seven Day Advantists, and of course: COMMUNISTS. UNDER Hilter's definition of communism anyone could be one if he said they were. IF ONE IS NOT SAFE THEN NOONE IS SAFE!!
Yes, thank you for your well thought out and educational comment! The word communism is being thrown around a lot lately by people who actually have no idea what communism is. I've been to China, I've experienced it, there are no politicians in public office in North America that even come close to emulating it. You are absolutely right, the first groups to go the camps were the homosexuals, the disabled, the gypsies and if there was a Muslim or Arab community in Germany at the time, they would have all been sent to the camps. And about the Christian subgroups, people are surprised when they learn about that. No one is safe, as you said. I think most American Jews feel fairly safe and protected under the Maga government, and can be proud that America stands with Israel, but how safe are we really? Historically Jewish communities have always been persecuted regardless of government protection. In 1190 AD, York, England, King Richard had issued a decree of protection on the Jewish community. The King owed them money and was happy to borrow from them when needed. While King Richard was in Israel on a crusade, an angry mob rose up and chased 150 Jewish community members to Clifford Tower. These were woman, children; entire families and out of desperation they took their own lives rather than be murdered at the hands of the crowd. My point is, this kind of hatred can happen in New York, it can happen anywhere to any group under the right circumstances. Like you said "if one group isn't safe, than no group is safe" . Mamdani is literally playing with matches in a powder gegg. He is arrogant and ignorant in the same breath.
If One is not safe, then NO one is safe! Thank you for your compliments. I wish Mamdani was ignorant but he is not. If you want to play identity politics sure pit one group against another and that is exactly what he did. Mamdani pitted Jews against followers of Islam, which has been a way to start trouble for a while now. He does not really care about either group of course, only what he can do to get himself ahead.
“You are so blinded by your hatred for the administration that you’re willing to accept anything; even if it is to your detriment. That is a real sign of ignorance. “
The recent surge in hate crimes in New York—with 70% targeting the Jewish community,is deeply concerning. As for Mamdani, I’m neutral on his leadership since he’s not my mayor, but I do take issue with how he constantly centers his faith in a self-congratulatory way.
For context, I’m a Messianic Jewish woman with close Muslim friends. We don’t preach to one another; we respect our differences. That mutual respect is something I value, and it’s a standard I expect from leaders, too.
What frustrates me most is his insistence on injecting Middle Eastern politics into New York’s local discourse. What happens in Israel is Israel’s business. What happens in Gaza is Gaza’s. In Canada, we support our Jewish community while also recognizing the immense losses suffered by Palestinians, both can coexist without one diminishing the other.
Of course, events in Israel trigger strong reactions from me. Netanyahu does need to answer for the 70,000 dead in Gaza, just as he must answer for October 7th, his policies enabled Hamas to thrive. But that’s a conversation for Israelis and Palestinians to have. New York’s mayor has no business stoking these divisions here. Ottawa’s mayor certainly doesn’t nor any major or Premier regardless of their faith and ethnicity. Both Jews and Muslims face real danger, as both communities are frequently targeted by white supremacist groups, radical factions, and widespread public ignorance.
I may be anti Israel military and their genocidal policies in Gaza but that does not mean I am anti-Jewish people. I have a step son-in-law who is Jewish and married to a Jewish immigrant. Both are not like Bibi and his cohorts. Israeli government is the problem, not the Jewish people.

Thank You Howard ... You are the best .
Agree 100% with you Mary
Mary and CaGail,
I also agree.
Loving Howard this am...........

Bibi is a war criminal without question. Most of Israel does not support him and they can’t wait until he is voted out. I agree that the justice system is corrupt and untrustworthy, but the mayor is doing much damage here. Antisemitism is at an all time high.
I hope things can improve to make you feel he is a Mayor for all
When he acts like he is a mayor for all I would be willing to give him a chance. Until then he is not worthy of the office in my opinion
Cohen has now turned his ire from President "Von Schitzenpants" to the Mayor of NYC. The check from AIPAC must have cleared.
Would it help if he appointed someone from the Jewish community to advise him and be part of his team?
You must be deaf and blind then. Get some help.
Michelle, I feel it's bigger than anything Mandani could say or do. Antisemitism is horrifying. So many centuries of it. What is your proof that Israel knew before hand about the attacks of October 6th?
If you research, there are multiple reports of Israel's failure to take me any warning signs seriously. They admit they failed. It was by design
It might help. I wonder if there were offers made. The problem is, you can’t change a person’s heart. No advisor can do this.
Michelle,
Change is always possible.
Americans deserve better.

Well said Leenie
And considering how long Bibi has had power, it’s like if Bush were still in charge.
