"The Reversed Robin Hood Budget"

Because nothing says “America First” like gutting school lunches, evicting grandma, and cutting heating funds to buy more tanks and barbed wire.

Welcome to the latest installment of “Donald Trump Screws His Own Base; Again.” I wish I could say I’m surprised, but at this point, watching Trump toss his red-hatted followers under the bus is as predictable as his suit and tie combination. Let’s dive into the fiscal 2026 “skinny budget,” a grotesque wishlist from the MAGA-in-Chief that does to nondefense programs what he tried to do to democracy: gut it.

And let me be very clear; this isn’t just bad policy. It’s betrayal. A betrayal not just of the most vulnerable Americans, but of his people. The factory workers, the retirees in trailer parks, the single mothers juggling three jobs who chanted “Trump 2024!” at rallies like he’s the second coming of Andrew Jackson. Spoiler alert: he’s not.

Let’s start with the slaughterhouse of social programs. Trump wants to eliminate funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. That’s right; he’s freezing Grandma in Michigan so he can boost the Pentagon’s already-bloated budget. Nothing says “America First” like telling old people to burn furniture to survive the winter.

Then there’s Job Corps, a critical lifeline for young people; especially in rural and inner-city communities, trying to claw their way out of poverty. MAGA country, I hate to break it to you, but Trump is killing your kids’ future to pay for more tanks.

Oh, but it gets better. The Community Development Block Grant program? Slashed. That’s money that funds everything from affordable housing to infrastructure repair in small towns and underserved urban areas. Guess who lives there? Yup; Trump voters. They’ll be left with potholes big enough to swallow their Ford F-150, but hey, at least they’ll have a border wall somewhere in Texas that nobody asked for.

Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program? Gone. Apparently, the administration believes teenage girls should just figure it out between Algebra and gym class. God forbid we educate them; education’s on the chopping block too.

In fact, Trump’s budget nukes the Department of Education by 15 percent. And if you’re wondering whether programs like TRIO and GEAR UP, which help low-income kids get into college, are safe; don’t. They’re not. In Trumpworld, poor kids don't need college; they need to “learn a trade,” like counting ballots in states he loses.

Then there’s the $27 billion slash to Housing and Urban Development (HUD). For all the talk of supporting American families, this budget tells anyone who can’t afford sky-high rent to go kick rocks. He proposes giving states “flexibility” to design rental programs, which is code for cutting federal oversight and letting GOP governors screw over tenants however they want. And the cherry on top? A new two-year cap on rental assistance for “able-bodied adults”; as if unemployment is a lifestyle choice and not a policy failure.

It gets worse; because of course it does.

The Department of Agriculture? Cut 18%. Commerce? 17%. Labor? A brutal 35%. The Department of State; aka the people who keep us from going to war with everyone simultaneously, is being gutted by 84%. But don’t worry, we’re giving Homeland Security a 65% boost so Trump can deport more terrified families and put more kids in cages. Gotta keep America white again, right?

All while Trump crows about defense spending hitting $1 trillion. I can hear him now: “It’s the biggest, most beautiful military budget; tremendous. People are talking about it.” Sure they are, Don. Mostly defense contractors and war profiteers.

Even Head Start, the lifeline for low-income kids to get early education, was reportedly in danger. Though officials now claim it’s safe, I don’t trust them with a Happy Meal order, let alone the futures of millions of children.

And let’s not forget Trump’s vendetta against the IRS. Cutting it by over $2.4 billion so billionaires can cheat and middle-class Americans get stuck holding the bag. That’s what happens when you pretend that “ending the weaponization” of the IRS is the same thing as letting the rich rob the country blind.

Let me tell you what this really is: a reverse Robin Hood budget. Steal from the poor, give to the Pentagon. Rob from the working class, funnel it to Trump’s deportation machine. Cut off access to housing, education, heat, and hope; so a few billionaires can sip champagne in Mar-a-Lago and fundraise off the bones of the American Dream.

And you know who’ll be hit the hardest? Not the elites Trump rails against. Not the liberal “coastal elites” he pretends to hate while begging them for campaign cash. No, the victims are the people in red states; MAGA’s true believers, who trust him to fight for them while he slashes their safety nets behind their backs.

You want to talk about betrayal? This budget is economic treason.

So the next time someone waves a MAGA flag and screams about how Trump “cares about the little guy,” how he is “one of them”, show them this budget. Ask them how many meals they’re skipping, how many rent checks they’re missing, and whether “owning the libs” is really worth freezing in the dark.

Trump isn’t saving America. He’s looting it; and torching the lifeboats on his way out.
