"The Truth Always Finds a Leak"
When truth becomes a threat, power hides; Trump’s crackdown on congressional oversight isn’t about leaks, it’s about silencing accountability before the questions even begin.
There’s something deeply unsettling happening right now, and if you blink, you just might miss it. With a single comment; buried in a press gaggle and barely challenged by his allies, President Trump has declared his intention to restrict the flow of information to Congress. The reason? To stop what he claims are “leaks.”
Let’s be honest: this isn’t about leaks. It’s about fear. Fear of accountability. Fear of facts. Fear that the institutions designed to keep executive power in check might actually do their job. And so, in true Trump fashion, the move is to preempt; deny the oxygen of information to anyone who might pose a threat to the narrative.
This isn’t just a policy change. It’s a deliberate and dangerous escalation; an act that says Congress doesn’t deserve to know what’s going on behind closed doors. It’s a signal to his loyalists and a warning to his critics. And it reeks of the same toxic cocktail I once helped serve: deflect, control, deny.
To hear it from Trump, the leaks are the issue. They compromise national security, politicize sensitive intelligence, and endanger lives. But here’s the truth; those leaks often expose the very things the public deserves to know. Lies. Cover-ups. Power plays. Leaks pulled back the curtain on abuses in Ukraine, on the real state of COVID briefings, on intelligence about foreign election interference and even on the damage to the Iranian nuclear threat. Without them, we'd be flying blind.
So when Trump says he's cutting off the tap, what he’s really saying is this: I will decide what truth is. Not Congress. Not the courts. Not the American people.
And that’s where this becomes dangerous.
Congress was never meant to be a ceremonial body. It’s not a rubber stamp. Its power of inquiry is fundamental to the health of our republic. If it can’t access the information it needs, oversight becomes a fiction; an empty ritual while real decisions are made in secret, away from scrutiny, behind doors locked by executive privilege.
And here’s where it gets worse. The party that once claimed to revere the Constitution is now defending this as “legitimate.” They say Trump is simply protecting national interests. But let's not confuse loyalty with logic. This is a party that cheered when Trump ignored subpoenas. That looked away when entire branches of the executive were told to "stand down" during congressional investigations. That called whistleblowers traitors while elevating sycophants to positions of unearned influence.
This isn’t new. But it’s bolder now. More shameless. More practiced.
Back when I worked for him, there was always an instinct to shield, to spin, to shift blame. But now the need to even explain is gone. The message is raw and direct: You don’t get to know. Sit down. Shut up. Trust me. And those who push back are painted as un-American, untrustworthy, or worse; enemies of the state.
Let’s ask the obvious: what information is so explosive, so damning, that it can’t even be shared with Congress under secure conditions? What exactly are we not supposed to see? Intelligence assessments? Briefings on foreign influence? Internal memos on policies already affecting millions?
This isn't about operational security. This is about political insulation.
There’s a reason why every would-be autocrat throughout history seeks to control information. When you can decide what is seen, you can decide what is believed. And when no one in power dares to challenge you? That’s not democracy; it’s stagecraft.
So no, this isn’t just another Trump headline. It’s a test. A stress test for the rule of law. For the independence of Congress. For whether we still believe in checks and balances, or whether we’ve traded them in for something darker, something easier.
To the lawmakers crying foul; don’t just issue press releases. Subpoena. Sue. Go to the floor. Call it out in plain language. And to those staying silent, remember this: when the pendulum swings, and it always does, the same tactics you enable today will be used against you tomorrow.
And to the American people: this is the moment to pay attention. Not just to what’s being said; but to what’s no longer being shared. When secrecy becomes policy, when oversight becomes theater, when truth becomes a tool of the executive alone; we’re not just in crisis. We’re in decline.
I've been inside the room where the decisions get made. I've seen what gets buried and why. And I’m telling you; when a leader fears the truth getting out, that’s when you push harder to uncover it.
Because a government that refuses to be questioned is a government no longer worthy of our trust. And a leader who silences Congress isn’t trying to stop leaks; he’s trying to control the flood.
WHERE ARE ALL THE NEW SUPPORTERS?
WE CANNOT DO THIS ALONE.
If you’re reading this, you’re already part of the resistance. You believe in truth. In justice. In dragging the roaches of corruption into the light. But let me be brutally honest: I can’t do this without you.
This isn't just another newsletter; it's a war cry. A movement. A battering ram aimed at the liars, the grifters, and the authoritarian wannabes hijacking our democracy. And we need to grow this platform into a voice so loud, so relentless, that they can’t spin it, silence it, or shut it down.
I’m calling on you; not passively asking, but urgently demanding, to fuel this fight. We are the last line of defense between democracy and dictatorship.
And yes; as a small token of my appreciation, the first 240 Founding Members will receive a signed, numbered, limited Substack edition of my New York Times bestseller, Revenge: How Donald Trump Weaponized the U.S. Department of Justice Against His Critics. It’s not just a collector’s item. It’s a declaration of where you stood when history came calling.
But this isn’t about a book.
This is about defiance.
About refusing to be gaslit.
About locking arms and shouting back at the madness.

Usually, when I think of a leak, it's a negative thing- leaky faucets, leaky valves, leaky pipes, leaky roofs. BUT THANK GOD there are LEAKS OF TRUTH in this turbulent, upside-down, uncertain time, when our Manchurian president LIES for a living, trying to create a sense of false security while promoting himself shamelessly. When the tRump Administration claims that they are going to ferret out leaks, we KNOW that we are onto the TRUTH. Michael, keep LEAKING! Principled journalists and other veritable sources, keep leaking! The only way to drain the REAL swamp, this current Administration, is to KEEP LEAKING!
Trump uses Congress for theatrical purposes. Once he gets what he wants out of them they will all be irrelevant.
