No political opponent could inflict the damage Democrats are inflicting upon themselves, abandoning pragmatism for extremism while pushing millions of voters toward Republicans.
For a year you had moral clarity and bashed Trump daily. Now you’ve suddenly flip flopped to bashing Democrats. I used to respect you but now realize you stand for nothing and no one can take you seriously.
my article and this issue has nothing to do with Trump. I have consistently warned that democrats, for whatever reason, are always our own worst enemy. Keep silent. Win the midterm. Force discussions. Instead, they flock to DSA rhetoric which will hurt the party in November. You are the one who is making it about Trump…not me.
The DSA is a small group of people. Can you name three DSA positions? How about two candidates? Most can’t bc it is a label of the far left. A fear tactic where republicans claim socialism and communism are the same.
Yes, it is a small group of people mostly comprised of people under 40. I have been to their website dsausa.org. AOC, Roshida Tlaib and Bernie Sanders and more. Bernie Sanders has been pushing for DS for years but not much traction since he had no support until the last few years. I don't know that Bernie is a full on DS. I don't know if he is for abolishing ICE, police, etc. Otherwise, there are some at the state and local level.. You can find a list at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_socialist_members_of_the_United_States_Congress.
Exactly! People seem to have a lot of energy to spend on bashing, completely blind sided by their own limited view and understanding. Instead they choose to shoot the messenger. Democrats are in serious trouble, no clear message and no plan to deliver what if anything concise they stand for. That needs to change, and fast. Great article.
Please list extreme DSA positions and rhetoric that scare democrats and independents to vote Republican. Not progressive ideas that voters want and are voting for.
I was actually addressing that to cohen. Not coming at you. Cohen answered with a sobering description of the authentic DSA as written in the USA Today. Which is inline with what you wrote.
Accept for abolishing ICE. And maybe the electoral college. I can support those.
There is also a huge campaign to target progressive ideals as the DSA. I follow other creators who define DSA and SDA and progressives a little different. Somewhere I think someone wrote an educational piece on the definitions, which I will never be able to find again. But the far left extreme just as the far right extreme are viewed directly as that and I don’t believe change the votes of millions of voters. I don’t have any evidence but only my opinion. But I am going to make an effort in the other creators I follow to clarify terms. Getting lazy on that could cause harm to the party.
You are a sheep in wolves clothes. Stop hiding behind your BS and just admit the truth that you are a GOP operative. James Carvelle is irrelevant and useless just like Schumer, Jeffries and other AIPAC supported candidates. We are done with the centrist ideology that has let us down for years. You are afraid of what is about to come
How about an article about the anti weaponization fund tug of war, or the cancellation of 25 million in Medicare subsidies for prescription drugs or the withdrawal of Pirro’s lawsuit??
Or an article about Trump's attempt to get full immunity for not paying taxes for him and his whole family. You said if Trump does something you don't agree with you will criticize him along with praising the "good" things he does as well. There's no way in your heart of hearts you think anything about that is kosher!!!
Well he actually was registered as a Republican for years, so his right turn is not surprising. He can’t help himself for attacking the mayor it’s who he is. It’s what he is best at attacking not building or supporting… you don’t get to was off the stain of being Trump’s se
KF proclaimed “fixer” and suddenly become not a conservative anymore!
It’s not my opinion that he was registered as a republican for years, it’s a fact. Why do you insist that as a republican he is not a conservative? You seem to be taking it personally, I’m sorry if the word conservative offends you, I do understand that they have much to account for regarding the state of the country.
He was a Republican, he isn't now. Just because you used to be a nice person years ago, doesn't mean you're not an asshole now. You can't judge people and hold them to their past.
If you don’t like what you’re reading, then cancel your paid subscription. I did…..I still look at the substack in wonder that such an about-face toward such an utterly reprehensible is possible. Michael sees opportunity, and stinky as it may be, he takes it. Ah well. (Not sure why the “only paid subscribers may comment” feature is not on this am, but I am taking my opportunity to encourage folks to place their hard-earned subscription dollars elsewhere.)
Indeed they do. I know that it is difficult for many to admit thar they’ve been conned…I freely say that I was taken in by Michael’s apparently clear-eyed assessment of Donald J Trump..his willingness now to go back on all those principles seems pointless. Trumpism is tanking, and his “associates” will soon find themselves left rudderless…blinking in shock at having been conned yet again.
I have said this before. In general People are Trusting, Willing to give a Second Chance and Empathetic.
Michael Cohen is a real life example of keeping your Radar Up and calling out People who Manipulate and Lie.
More than ever, we need to be engaged in the process. Watching and Questioning Everyone. This is OUR Democracy!
Just read a recent poll on Republicans and Immigration/ICE. 8 out of 10 still support the Trump/Miller Policies (Cruelty, Lack of Due Process, etc.) That is what scares me! We have Neighbors who don't believe People should be treated with Humanity.
Michael doesn't hide behind a paywall. If you don't like reading Michael's column then don't read it but unsubscribing and then coming back to bash him is not appreciated.
I did not “come back” (I wouldn’t) but I continue to read it because I don’t want to live in a liberal echo chamber. For some reason., non-paying subscribers are able to post today..so I thought that I would…I have subscribed to another, actually conservative substack with the subscription dollars that I assigned to Michael’s. He writes well, even though I am gobsmacked by his about face, looking at it for free(and at the very interesting comments) is an interesting look inside the MAGA mindset.
You and many here are intimating people do not have the right to change parties as they grow and evolve. Yet that is their right as Americans to do so without a public thrashing.
"Change parties as they grow and evolve?" Certainly. But Michael's situation has some complexities. He is "evolving" toward a man who has the power to pardon him, who controls whether Michael will potentially receive millions of dollars from the so-called "anti-weaponization" fund. A man who got Michael this radio gig, predicting he'll be the "next Rush Limbaugh." And knowing this man by all appearances only acts in his self-interest, one can wonder if he isn't drawing Michael in closer, with the hope that he'll recant his testimony, thus voiding those 34 felony convictions (which Michael already set the foundation for with his "pressured and coerced" statement.) So, no, I don't agree that Michael is merely "changing and evolving" because his political leanings have changed.
It doesn’t “matter”…but the state of our politics and the awfulness of Trumpism lead me to try and examine it from all sides. Interesting that you get a “laugh” from it…did you like this substack as well when Michael was polite but very critical of Trump and nis sidekicks? That is, before Michael wanted to return to that role as well?
I believe you are confusing ideological positions with ethical ones. Just a few statistics (that you failed to provide to make your points in one of your earlier posts.) - fact check me through AI on this.
About 78% of all Americans agree that ALL Americans should have a right to healthcare regardless of ability to pay. Even a majority 54%-63% support replacing most private insurance and be financed by higher taxes on the wealthy.
80%-90% of ALL Americans oppose any cuts to Social Security benefits and support protecting and preserving it. The SAME percentage says the same about Medicare.
70%-80% of ALL American view Medicaid favorably.
85%-90% of ALL Americans believe that everyone who wants a college education should have the opportunity regardless of income.
65-70% of ALL Americans support raising taxes on the wealthy.
You get the picture. There is more agreement on this across all political and “ideological” lines.
Michael Cohen, there is a new force in America and it has NOTHING at all to do with ideology or any labels being put on it. It does however have EVERYTHING to do with ethics.
Larry, All Americans have a right to healthcare regardless of pay. Hospitals do not turn people away. Walk-in clinics do not turn people away. We have medicaid and medicare. I do not support replacing private health insurance. I do think the wealthy should pay their fair share of taxes instead of getting all these tax breaks to make them even wealthier. I think medicaid should be a temporary issue not permanent unless you are elderly, disabled or ill and not able to hold a job. If you are capable of holding a job, you should try to work and get insurance through your employer instead of relying on medicaid which is funded by people who are working. Everyone who wants an education does have the opportunity regardless of income. There are grants, loans, etc. I definitely support raising the taxes on the wealthy.
Wow. It’s fascinating, as well as nauseating, to observe the bizarre “presto, change-o” act of public political figures in real time here. All those Republicans who called out the truth about trump years ago only to then become his defenders, golf buddies, apologists, or employees. you think they have no moral center or personal convictions, or maybe they’re mentally ill, possessing multiple personalities or something, before realizing that they’re completely empty vessels, utterly self absorbed and always available to sell themselves to the highest bidder.
Here are a few more suggestions for your Substack…the amazing disappearing Mitch McConnell, the Max Miller saga and the Blanche dossier…I’ll pretend to permanently kill the Fund but leave in the IRS immunity clause…
Give me a few, I might have some more headliners for you
Please stop ! The real problem with my party as I see it...We let you and the gop define us. I believe we need a leader who is a gifted orator to lead the party . It is our own fault that we allow you and others to define us. Years ago your party was able to turn the word liberal into a dirty word. Instead of fighting back we changed the word form liberal to progressive. Shame on us.
I had tee shirts made that said, I'd rather be a bleeding heart liberal then a mean spirited republican any day. And I still would. Wanting health care for (which we can afford) is not being a communist. .. sick and tired of the greedy needy right!
Too many Americans barely participated in the process. An estimated 89 million Americans or about 36% of the Country's Voting-Eligible Population did not Vote in 2024.
I think many Americans also didn't understand Establishment Candidates and the Impact of PACS when they did VOTE.
We are in such danger right now. Our President is a Fascist, an extreme right-wing leader. I can't think of anything he has done that conforms with the ideas of the Founding Fathers. That equates to not respecting and following the Constitution. Every action he takes chips away at the freedoms we are promised. He goes after anyone who disagrees with or makes fun of him. Look at what happened to Stephen Colbert. CBS decided that kissing Trump's ass was more important than standing behind Colbert and his Free Speech rights. If Trump had his way, there would be no political humor, and no comedians (who dare to disagree and satirize him). He has the thinnest skin of any person I have ever known. It would take this entire page to remind anyone who has been hiding in a cave of everything Trump has done. He is a convicted felon. He completely ignores the laws. He stacked the Supreme Court with Justices who rule in his favor. The ONLY thing required to be part of the government is loyalty. One way: loyalty. Loyalty in the way a monarch requires and receives. I admit that I never, ever thought he would be elected the first time. He was, and was elected a second time. He and his family have grifted the American people out of god knows how much money. All his decisions benefit the ultra-wealthy. We no longer have a middle class. And the rest of us are struggling to survive. Michael, you didn't mention Trump, and the essay was not about him. But the fact that you ignored him in today's post shines a light on him, and that is why your readers are reacting the way they are. I believe you that you are left of center politically. I agree that the far left part of the Democratic Party is problematic. However, that is a view based on theory. The problem is that the far right of the Republican Party's agenda is not a theory; it is, and has been, the reality of our existence since Trump. Let me be clear. The fundamental wing of both parties does not represent a majority of citizens. But his disapproval rating today is very low, and that matters. This is a link to a search result for "Trump's approval rate today 2026".
However, back to the topic this post is about. Personally, I don't think that enough Democrats are fed up with the party's internal confusion to vote for the Republican candidate. I will vote all blue this time. I have, on occasion, voted for a Republican. However, this time, it is imperative that we get down to business and start fixing everything that Trump has broken. There is so much wrong that I have no idea where to start. But I prefer to err on the side of being too liberal. An analogy is the death penalty. I would rather let a guilty person go free than execute ONE innocent person. I agree with Michael's stance that our government works best when we sit down and work with the other side. Communication is key. However, Michael and I have a large difference of opinion when it comes to Trump. He has decided that if Trump does something correctly, he deserves credit. My standard is much harsher. Trump has repeatedly made the wrong decision every time he decides something. He governs by Executive Order, thereby doing a runaround of the Constitution. Trump's ends do not justify his means. Iran should never have nuclear power. But bombing them to hell and sparking a potential for a huge war in the Middle East, if not the entire world, is not the way. We must get rid of him and his sycophantic followers and gain a majority in Congress. I truly believe that if we don't, our Democracy will be irreversibly gone.
I agree. It is still hard to believe that we are where we are now. I know, that isn’t important, but it is still true. I have a bumper sticker from the ACLU. “Vote like your rights depend on it.” That says it all.
This moment has been coming for decades. Everyone blames Trump for Supreme Court. Actually we see there was a Plan that was slowly implemented. Basically they sat in the shadows and took incremental steps to achieve their Extreme Conservative Goals.
I donate monthly and follow ACLU. Great Bumper. Currently I have on my car "Caring About Other People is not Political." "Democracy or Dictatorship-Your Choice" is also on. Having a new one go on..........Democrats=Democracy. Republicans=Dictatorship soon.
Any readers confused why cohen’s articles are mainly anti democrat and pro republican?
The reason is so disgustingly simple. Cohen is a republican. Not my opinion, his truth. Listen to the beginning of his radio show. He admits it. He can’t hide or backtrack or make pretty excuses about “his truth” and he always wants documentary evidence.
I’m going to say that again for those followers who still think cohen fights for the democratic team. Cohen is a republican. The “real truth” will always win against someone’s lies or suavely labeled “their truth”.
It isn’t a coincidence cohen is on a maga based radio station. Cohen is an opportunist with no moral compass. He fooled all of us. If you still choose to follow a republican good luck defending him on any topic. And don’t believe me. He said it himself to his boss, a billionaire trump donor and self described white Christian nationalist.
This was the first time I’ve heard it. I listened bc Santos and Cohen have different lies about a specific topic. I wanted to hear them both lie. But it was a shock, cohen is really pumped up. Good for him. But I had to turn it off when I heard he had a segment of fake news. This was after his Republican confession so it was just one more right wing tactic.
So now you've heard 77 WABC. It's a 24 hrs. non-stop jingoistic rah-rah of maga madness. Totally out of control. But their ad base is weak and the majority of listeners are over 65. That's not a slap against seniors, but it's not the target audience that brings in revenue for the station. Cats is funding this whole thing out of his pocket. The light ad revenue can't cover it. Many years ago, when AM radio mattered, they pulled in millions of listeners as the No. 1 Top 40 station in the country. They were once known as WABeatlesC way back when. Much better days than the ones we are in now.
I didn’t know the exact time but I caught the end of Roger Stone. I’m shocked that stations like this exist. I was naive thinking Roger stone had anything relevant to say. Someone is listening. Or maybe not.
Many like yourself hate on Michael as a lying pos and worse and unsubscribe because they hate his writing yet these same people like yourself come back here every single day after they unsubacribe to keep on publicly hating! Why unsubscribe if you still plan to come here daily to read his substacks?
My subscription doesn’t expire for awhile. I read his article and more often than not there is a level of hypocrisy or occasionally outright lies. I point them out so others will ask their own questions and seek answers. Blind faith in a notoriously divisive individual is intellectually lazy. He tells you he is a left leaning centrist and you believe him. Yet, in his radio show he refers to himself as a Republican. I didn’t make that up. His articles frequently mimic Trump positions on the same days as other coordinated articles do. Reread some of the articles and with your best judgment determine if they are centrist leaning left articles? They are not. Compare who he was when the left loved him and his stance now? He lies to you Suzanne. His narratives are filled with gaps and misdirection. He is smart. I come back daily bc he is a fraud. Many, many people have come to that conclusion. And not bc of any Wolfpack attacks.
Michael's substack today was directed at increasing the appeal of the Democratic platform. It was in no way supportive of the right and it would be a mistake not to take his sound advice.
Also the Wolfpack is still here with all Levs people spreading hate. Michael is being genuine, getting up at 4:30am to write these substacks for all of us and he deserves better than to be continually bashed.

Hm. Methinks Michael had his eye on the AG position. But it seems he’s too late for that.
Maybe he could be the new COS?
Or another assistant COS to fix … or rather exclusively handle, shall we call , “challenging situations”? He’s certainly qualified.
Or perhaps a special envoy fixer-in-chief, in case there’s a need to travel?
I was thinking the same thing. I think he misses being his corrupt “personal fixer”
Yep! He misses donny!

Joanne,
Democrats=Democracy.
Republicans=Dictatorship.
We can argue fine points and differences and disappointments. Why?
We are on the Edge of a Cliff-Fascism or Democracy? That simple.
Americans deserve better.
I agree. It is still hard to believe that we are where we are now. I know, that isn’t important, but it is still true. I have a bumper sticker from the ACLU. “Vote like your rights depend on it.” That says it all.
Joanne,
This moment has been coming for decades.
Americans deserve better.
Of course Cohen is a republican the writing is All over the wall
The radio show is a joke. He sounds like he is on cocaine. Every commercial has a clip of trump praising Michael. Even George SA Santos dissed himl
Yeah it's a who's who of MAGA nut jobs - Mark Levin is even on there
Isn’t Roger Stone supposed to be in prison for witness tampering and lying to Congress
Marlene,
Sorry you have to hear it..........dementia too?
Americans deserve better.
Marlene,
People can become brainwashed? Fox is entertainment, etc.
But glad your Mom held her convictions despite Dementia. Amazing really!
Americans deserve better.
At first glance project 2025 seems innocuous. They are gifted and organized. So many people willingly give up their critical thinking skills.
Cohen is Independent. Centrist leaning left.
