"Trump: No 3rd Term, But Maybe, Who Knows?"
Trump flirts with a third term, tanks the economy with tariffs, and dares us to blink—because when democracy dies, it’ll be wearing a red hat.
Just when you think Donald Trump couldn’t sound more detached from reality, he opens his mouth on NBC and says, essentially: I’m not going to run for a third term… but maybe I could. Maybe I should. People are saying. A lot of people. You could practically hear the gears in his brain churning: There are ways…
Let me be blunt: there are no "ways." The 22nd Amendment is clear; two terms. Period. Not two terms plus vibes. Not two terms unless the crowd at Mar-a-Lago chants “one more time” like it’s a Rolling Stones farewell tour. Just two. But here we are in May 2025, and Trump is once again testing the waters like a mobster asking, “What if I didn’t technically break the law, but just… massaged it a little?”
This isn’t hypothetical. This isn’t Trump being “funny” or “provocative.” This is a man openly floating a trial balloon for authoritarian overreach; again, and hoping enough of his cult cheers loud enough for him to believe it’s real.
But here’s what’s different: the appetite for this fantasy? It’s shrinking. Back in 2021, a whopping 66% of Republicans wanted Trump to run again. Today? Only 44%. That’s not erosion; that’s political atrophy. The man who once commanded the GOP with a stranglehold now finds himself slipping into fringe territory, where “constitutional term limits” are a suggestion and tariffs are the panacea to everything.
Ah yes, the tariffs; Trump’s go-to economic move when he wants to look tough but doesn’t understand a damn thing about policy. He’s back on the warpath, proposing even more sweeping tariffs on imports that economists across the spectrum agree will trigger inflation, hurt growth, and wallop American families right in the wallet. But Trump insists it’ll be worth it. Sure, prices might go up; he says this like it’s no big deal, but “in the long run” it’ll all work out.
What “long run” is he talking about? The one where Americans spend more on groceries, gas, and appliances while getting paid the same or less as they lose or transition to different jobs? Or the one where American manufacturers are forced to pay more for parts, materials, and supply chain essentials, then pass those costs onto consumers, aka, you? Because that’s not economics. That’s economic malpractice.
And it’s not like Trump doesn’t know better; he does. He just doesn’t care. His supporters are the ones who’ll feel the pinch the most. The very people he claims to fight for; middle-class families, small business owners, rural voters living on fixed incomes, are the ones who’ll get crushed by his boneheaded economic moves. But to Trump, pain is part of the performance. Suffering is just a subplot to the grand narrative of his victimhood.
Meanwhile, let’s talk about how wildly unpopular this third term talk really is. A full 76% of Americans; across party lines, say absolutely no to a third term. And even among Republicans, 53% say no. The constitutional faithful; what’s left of them, still have a pulse. But that 44%? The ones who are nodding along with this insanity? What exactly are they saying about the rule of law? About precedent? About the fundamental structure of American democracy?
They’re saying none of that matters; if it gets in Trump’s way.
This isn’t just about one man’s lust for power anymore. It’s about a political movement that’s willing to bend the rules, or outright break them, to stay relevant. It’s about a base so drunk on grievance and conspiracy that they’re ready to discard term limits; the same ones that were put in place after FDR precisely to stop this kind of power consolidation. And now they’re waving it off like it’s some technicality. A speed bump on the road to the Trump Forever Highway.
Let’s be clear: Trump isn’t running for a third term… yet. He said he’s not. But in the same breath, he laid the groundwork for walking that statement back: “People are saying I should,” he teased. “There are ways.”
So here's the correction, the update, the truth: Trump is not currently running for a third term. But he’s openly entertaining it. And like everything he does, it starts with a wink, a shrug, and a talking point designed to test how far he can push the boundaries of the Constitution before anyone stops him.
Well, this needs to be stopped before it starts. This isn’t about partisanship; it’s about precedent. If we let a president; any president, publicly muse about breaking a foundational rule of our democracy and then do nothing, we are writing the blueprint for an American strongman.
So no, Donald. You don’t get a third term. There are no “ways.” There are no loopholes. The Constitution doesn’t bend to your ego; and the presidency isn’t a family heirloom you can keep polishing for the cameras. The show’s over in 2028. The crowd is thinning. Take the hint.
