"America Divided: Can We Ever Unite?"
As Trump's second term spirals deeper into dysfunction, over half of Republicans still cheer; proof that delusion may be bipartisan.
It appears we have officially entered the twilight zone; a journey into the fifth dimension which exists between light and shadow. A new CNN poll just dropped, and it shows that 55% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents are somehow optimistic about the rest of Trump’s second term as president. Let that sink in for a moment. Despite the clown car that has become his presidency, despite the continuing circus of dysfunction, and despite the absolute dumpster fire of his executive orders, more than half of his party is still looking ahead with hope. Hope?! In what? In a man who couldn’t govern his way out of a paper bag if his life depended on it?
Who are these people? Who are the Trump die-hards, still optimistic in the face of everything that's gone wrong; everything they should be questioning but refuse to? Let me tell you, they’re not some small band of extremists holed up in a trailer park somewhere. Nope. They’re everywhere. They’re the suburban dad who’s been convinced by right-wing media that Joe Biden was a communist in disguise. They’re the rural voters who think Trump is a savior sent to bring back a mythical past that never existed. And yes, they’re the every person who still thinks Trump is some kind of blue-collar hero, even though the only thing he’s ever cared about is his own damn reflection in the mirror. But the sad part? These folks aren’t just indifferent to reality. They're clinging to this broken system, hoping for a second coming of the same man who fumbled his way through four years like a toddler in a candy store.
Let’s break it down: These aren’t people simply unaware of Trump’s incompetence; they’re people who’ve been fed lies for so long that they believe every word of it. They’ve been groomed by the likes of Fox News, Newsmax, and the Trumpian echo chamber into thinking that this is what “winning” looks like. Their hero Trump, the same man who called neo-Nazis “very fine people,” who insulted veterans, who threw a tantrum over a simple handshake, is the guy they’re clinging to for salvation. I mean, talk about loyalty to a fault. It’s the kind of loyalty reserved for people who think the Titanic was unsinkable; right up until it hits the iceberg.
And yet, 55% of Republicans are saying, “Yeah, this is our guy. More of this, please.” I’m sorry, but if you can look at what’s going on in this country right now; the lies, the chaos, the damage to every institution that should be guiding us, and still think Trump is the answer, you’re in serious denial. And let’s not forget how Trump’s first term left the country divided like never before. But it’s not just division these folks are hoping for. No, it’s more of that division, because that’s what they’ve been sold as a victory.
But who the hell are these people really kidding? They’ve bought into a system that’s all about Trump the person, not Trump the leader. They’ve abandoned the notion of governance, of policies that actually help the country move forward. They’re after something more visceral; something that satisfies their need to “stick it to the libs,” “own the media,” and “own the libs” again. Who cares if the country burns to the ground in the process? At least they’ll have the satisfaction of watching it all go down while Trump stands there grinning like the Cheshire Cat, doing his best impression of a leader who could not care less about any of them.
And here's the real kicker: How does America ever come back from this? How do we, as a nation, ever heal from the rift when a solid half of the country is hopelessly brainwashed by the Trump cult? This isn’t just a political disagreement anymore. This is a full-on personality cult, where facts don’t matter, and loyalty to the man is the only thing that counts. These aren’t people who want a better country; they want Trump to be the king of it, and damn the consequences. It’s like watching someone race toward a cliff while cheering about how fast they’re going. We’re going to win, baby! Except they’re not winning anything. They’re just driving the nation off a cliff at full speed.
But here’s the problem: They don’t care. They just want the show. They want the chaos, the fights, the drama. They’ve gotten so used to the dysfunction, they don’t even recognize what real, functioning government looks like anymore. They see their hero Trump as the guy who gets things done by doing absolutely nothing but stoking division. Because in their world, stoking division equals winning.
So, where does that leave us? A country hopelessly fractured. A side that’s so deep in the Trump cult that rational thought is a distant memory. And on the other side, the rest of us who are left watching this trainwreck and wondering how the hell we got here. How do we ever come together as a country when half of us have decided that the only way forward is to tear the whole thing down? How do we unify when a good chunk of the population has bought into the idea that the solution to our problems is more of the same from a man who has been proven time and again to be completely unqualified to lead?
The truth is, we’re stuck. Until this Trump cult is dismantled; and I don’t just mean the man himself, but the entire twisted ideology that’s taken root, unity is nothing but a pipe dream. And the sad part? The more we try to move forward, the more they cling to the wreckage of the past, oblivious to the damage they’ve done and are doing.
So, while they’re off cheering Trump, Trump, Trump, the rest of us are left wondering just how much more damage this country can take.

United we stand!
Michael, you are so right. I live in Central Florida, in the Ocala National Forest area, 20 miles east of Ocala. I'm the only person who protests and try to spread the word. Every one in my community is elderly, on disability, Medicare, Social Security (low income) and Medicaid and Snap. I can’t tell them anything bad that will happen with the economy and their benefits. They all have Trump posters in their yards and are treating me like I'm the devil 😈.
I have decided to no longer try to educate them. Even my best friends are no more.
It fears me that these people cannot be changed. They are poor but still think Trump is going to save our country 🤔.
I'm hoping that with unemployment that's to come, with having empty store shelves, with prices so high that they can't afford to buy, will show people that he is not good for our country. I think for some of these people it will have to hit them on the money side of it before they will start to think. I think these people think that not having honest judges, lawyers, education for our children doesn't affect them. They don't believe that all the cuts that he is doing to our medical system will hurt them. Wait until they have to start paying out of their own pockets for that and can't afford their medicines. They are so ingrained with the man and they believe everything tRump does and says until it starts hitting them personally, then they will question. Not the rich magas, they have the money to withstand all that will hit them. But, I believe the everyday magas and the poor magas will start questioning. That is what we can hope for, anyway.
