I really DO NOT UNDERSTAND why people are delivering the MAGAt message by saying there will be no midterms INSTEAD of saying TO WORK FOR the MIDTERM TO HAVE DEMOCRACY. Messaging METHODOLOGY COUNTS. DEMs suck at it. That is how we got here. People can DO A DO. This means the CTA is to the ACTION. ACT LIKE PEOPLE DOING DEMOCRACY.

URGENT…. COMPLACENCY ALERT. You nailed it, Michael.

It’s 7 AM central time on Thursday and I am headed to the “ Good Trouble” protest. The last protest I went to was canceled so there were only 100 people there. I have a feeling today is going to be quite similar. I am already prepared to start bitching.

WHERE IS EVERYONE???!!!

THIS IS OUR FREEDOM, COUNTRY, WAY OF LIFE & IDEALS BEING THREATENED…FOREVER……. these 8 years have already grossly affected my children. The two years of Covid alone … then we personally had four major deaths, and a PTSD inducing move, in that time.

We collectively have been doing this crap for nine years….people aren’t fed up YET??!!!

I just refuse to believe that Americans are this gullible, complacent, and stupid. But let’s face it, the majority of Americans are acting that way.

Heading out today too…. We have twice weekly protests in our very red State of Indiana!! We are slowly gaining numbers!

@Michael Cohen, continue to be blunt and unapologetic about the lack of plan and unity by the Dems. You're sadly right. I DO see a shift: the anger and tide rising, but left uncontained it is rage without purpose, which falls too short. As I continue to see you, Lev, Malcolm and other independent, loud voices join each other on your platforms, this too gives me hope. Now we need the SIMPLE three-word messages, all part of a larger, unifying plan: we are democracy.

You couldn't be more right, Michael. Democrats can't win by trashing Trump. It's lazy, and it's not going to carry the day. Look at how many Republicans came out and said "release the Epstein files", and then went right in at voted to block the release? Democrats need to start learning that yes, like you said Michael, Trump's weakness cannot be our strategy!! His weakness has NOT changed anything. Democrats need to do the work! Get out there and convince the American people that they can actually LEAD, not follow every talking head spin session on Trump's failures. Reach across the aisle--find a WIN for the American people in an authentic, and lasting way. I so tire of it too.

Ahh, Pegs therein lies the problem. Dem leadership is following the catastrophically f*cking moronic strategic advice of a washed up former strategist to 'play dead' & wait for D to implode &/or his poll number drop. But Dems are 27%! Carville is not a freekin genius. America needs a completely new opposition with younger, energetic and smarter warriors.

I'm 64 years old tomorrow. I refuse to be lumped into a category that you categorize as out of touch, useless, non-progressive and complacent. I do more than most "young" people out there. a LOT MORE. And that...IS TRUTH. Where the HELL were the "young" door knockers, the letter writers, the town hall and rally goers? TOO MANY "YOUNG" people SAT HOME ON ELECTION DAY. So please be careful how you speak and stereotype. It's insulting to my patriotism, and my humanity.

Michael you should send his to every single democratic representative, senator and governor in the country!

Exactly. We need to get this message to all representatives! There are some that are doing some good work but there needs to be more. We need a leader that unifies people and carries this message.

Until such time as a single leader emerges--and even after that happens--we all need to exercise PERSONAL LEADERSHIP. Print this post of Michael's and mail it to your (or all) democratic "leaders" (representatives, senators, governors, DNC, etc.)

They need a playbook like Trump has, but with different goals. One's that save our country and it's people's. They need to rise to the occasion and speak loud and clear. They need to let people know what is going on and how they intend to fix it. They need to grow a spine, get out there and meet the people and talk, making their voices loud and clear. We can't do that for them, but if they will get off of there butts they certainly can.

Douglas's avatar

Whose they?? The Democrats are NOT built for this moment. As fate would have it, I contend the Dem 'leadership' is precisely the WRONG people you'd need to oppose fascism.

I believe that there are some that are. They all need to have a fire lit under them and face the facts and get madder than hell and then raise some hell.

Good morning Michael. As usual, you are writing with knowledge, wisdom and close up and personal experience with the POS. But, how do we spread your ideas, your knowledge of what the Democrats need to do, must do? My husband and I are part of the every Saturday group of protesters through Adams County Democrats in Gettysburg. There has got to be a way to spread these ideas to ignite some energy all across the country. Any thoughts? Any ideas?

This is my question. I’m going to the July 17 rally today but I don’t feel I’m doing much!!!!

Expand full comment
skayen's avatar

Probably more than you think as I experienced today. My previous rallies were on government property; attendees number in the thousands. Today I attended a protest located on a commercial thoroughfare. Far fewer people, perhaps 300, but 95% of passing vehicles honked their horns and/or gave us "thumbs up" in approvals. In my viewing range, only one driver (guy) gave us the finger.

I agree to this: I think there should be more town halls, where the people can speak and the Dems running for office can listen and provide possible solutions. I agree we should offer reform and not just anti-Trump stuff. There should be plans on what to do and how to do it, Trump or no Trump.

This is still a democracy, where the people are the boss; we haven't lost the country yet.
