"One Nation, Under Fear, Divisible by Cowardice"
As America considers going to war, two unlikely lawmakers demand debate. But Congress hides, paralyzed by fear and ego. Who decides if we go to war; Trump alone?
Let’s get one thing straight; Donald Trump isn’t entirely wrong.
There. I said it.
As president, he does have the authority; under Article II of the Constitution, to act swiftly in defense of the nation, especially when there’s an imminent threat to American lives or assets. Every modern commander-in-chief, from Bush to Obama to Biden and back to Trump, has leaned on that same authority when responding to volatile situations around the globe.
But that power is not absolute. It was never meant to be.
And here’s where the system starts to break down; again. Because while Trump pounds his chest and tells Iranian civilians to evacuate Tehran, Congress is missing in action. Not because they weren’t invited to the party; but because they don’t seem interested in showing up at all.
What Rep. Thomas Massie and Rep. Ro Khanna are doing isn’t just a political gesture; it’s a constitutional course correction. A rare moment of bipartisan clarity in a sea of dysfunction. They're stepping into the breach and saying: if we’re about to send American troops into another Middle East war, Congress needs to debate it, vote on it, and own that decision. Just like the founders intended.
And here’s the thing: Trump is right to want the agility to act in a crisis. But Congress is right to demand its seat at the table. This isn’t either-or. It’s both. It's called a co-equal branch of government for a reason.
Which begs the question: Where the hell are Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries? Why isn’t Senate leadership seizing this opportunity to assert its constitutional authority? Why isn’t the House using its platform to demand answers, ask questions, hold public hearings, do something?
They’re not paid to posture. They’re not paid to do media appearances. They’re paid to govern.
And governing means coming to the table; even when it’s uncomfortable. Especially when the stakes are life and death.
So. let’s be real: Trump may love the art of the deal, but there is no deal to be made when one side checks out and the other is left tweeting warnings of war. This isn’t a PR campaign. It’s a constitutional crisis dressed up as political business as usual.
Now we’ve got Senator Tim Kaine filing his own war powers resolution in the Senate. Massie and Khanna are doing the same in the House. These are not fringe figures; they’re serious lawmakers taking their oath seriously. And they’re forcing a reckoning, one that Schumer and Jeffries would rather duck.
Now, ask yourself: Why aren’t leadership offices on both sides calling emergency caucus meetings? Why isn’t the Speaker of the House on TV saying, “We’re not authorizing a fuckin thing until we’ve had a debate”? Why isn’t Schumer standing shoulder to shoulder with Kaine demanding a floor vote?
Because it’s easier to hide. It’s easier to let Trump own the narrative, drop the soundbites, and move the chess pieces while Congress pretends it’s still on summer recess. Meanwhile, the Constitution sits there, gathering dust like a prop on a forgotten stage.
I’m not saying Trump doesn’t have the right to act in defense of U.S. interests. He does. But I am saying it’s Congress’ duty to ask: What are the objectives? What’s the strategy? What’s the cost; in dollars, in diplomacy, and in potential lives?
Massie said it best: “This is not our war. But if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our Constitution.” That’s not isolationism. That’s patriotism.
Let’s be honest here; if you're a member of Congress, and you don’t think you need to be in the room when a potential war is on the table, what the hell are you even doing there?
This is supposed to be the moment when our leaders lead. When Schumer and Jeffries gather Democrats and say, “We need answers.” When McConnell and Johnson rally Republicans and say, “We have a responsibility.” When they all put politics aside, shut the doors, get in a room, and hash it the hell out.
Because this is what you were elected to do. This is why you wear the damn pin.
To the American people: Don’t be fooled by the silence. It’s not peace. It’s paralysis. It’s cowardice. It’s incompetence.
And to Congress: If Massie and Khanna; two men who probably agree on nothing else, can find common ground, then you can too. Trump’s not going to wait for you. That’s not how he works. Trust me, I know him better than you do. But that doesn’t mean you get to check out. It means you get to show up.
So again, I ask: What the hell are you waiting for?
History is watching. And if you can't step up now, when the issue is this serious, you never will.

If you’re reading this, you’re already part of the resistance. You believe in truth. In justice. In dragging the roaches of corruption into the light. But let me be brutally honest: I can’t do this without you.
This isn't just another newsletter; it's a war cry. A movement. A battering ram aimed at the liars, the grifters, and the authoritarian wannabes hijacking our democracy. And we need to grow this platform into a voice so loud, so relentless, that they can’t spin it, silence it, or shut it down.
I’m calling on you; not passively asking, but urgently demanding, to fuel this fight. We are the last line of defense between democracy and dictatorship.
And yes; as a small token of my appreciation, the first 240 Founding Members will receive a signed, numbered, limited Substack edition of my New York Times bestseller, Revenge: How Donald Trump Weaponized the U.S. Department of Justice Against His Critics. It’s not just a collector’s item. It’s a declaration of where you stood when history came calling.
But this isn’t about a book.
This is about defiance.
About refusing to be gaslit.
About locking arms and shouting back at the madness.
