This holiday has morphed into an ambiguous, catch-all celebration of presidents past and present, regardless of whether they deserved to be celebrated at all.
I think I'll be working today, make sure I have something to show for it & especially since I'm not in any kind of celebratory mood. I know you highlighted past presidents who did a great deal of good for our country and deserve recognition ... but just a few months ago I imagined that at this point I'd be celebrating an America that had made history and changed the world. Right now, I just want to forget about it 😞
Michael Cohen, I have to say that every day since the orange clown came down the escalator it's been like a series of Doctor Who where every episode ended in a cliffhanger even the finale.
Well put Michael Cohen. Unless Gen X Americans learned from their grandparents about the dust bowl and Great Depression, learned about sacrifices of wars and then passed those stories down to Millennials and Gen Zs, I am afraid we as a country are doomed to repeat failure of the past.
My grandfather was a Canadian born German-American who heard the call to fight for the US in WWII. He saw the atrocities committed by the Nazis. He also lost his legs. My grandma was 3 at the start of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. Her family moved from North Dakota so my great grandfather could find work.
As a young person, I walked my own path. I left my tiny community for New York and CT to be a nanny. I met my husband. HIS Grandmother and Uncle were survivors of the Holocaust. Until they got to know me, they hated me because of my family’s heritage. But they learned about it and came to love me. It’s my experiences that made me who I am.
I look at both sides and all POV before making decisions. That’s why I value your opinion and perspective. Many of our leaders today don’t have that ability. I may not like hearing some of the things, but it’s a right we have currently. We can openly debate. Keep doing what you’re doing to keep the principles and rights we have in our country alive. Peace! ☮️
Your last paragraph gives me hope. You have seen the worst of the worst, up close and personal, so if you can do that and still believe that our democracy will stand through anything then I have to believe it too. We will continue to fight for it and to stand together to keep it, with all its flaws as well as its promises, it's still the best game in town. Thank you for being one of our truth-tellers, Michael. Happy Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays because you're right, every president does not deserve to be honored.
Your last paragraph is spot on. We may be going through turmoil at the hands of Republicans that put us all here, but we will prevail. We do not know anything else but democracy, and we will not obey. The rich will get eaten, and heads will get spun if crossed. They may be flexing now, but this is a learning module!
The dignity of the Office of the President of the United States 🇺🇸 and the values of Constitution of the United States is a cause for national celebration . Fundamentally history will determine how each President has served the people. The Office of the President currently is in jeopardy with the absence of dignity and completely ignoring the people it is constituted to serve .
Trump just declared himself above the law—and he's proving it. From gutting the DOJ to stacking the courts, his power grab is happening in real time. This article breaks down how democracy is unraveling—and what must be done to stop it.
Too much emphasis on a poll that is based on reflexive feelings from people who just do not yet understand what is going on, and how terrible it is, if allowed to proceed. Ofcourse, weak minded people who can be easily conned by lies, and can't imagine the collapse of democracy, will still cling to their vote - they haven't felt the damage yet.
When I was little, I remembered in school, I drew a head of Abraham Lincoln and made a portrait of him. That how I celebrate presidents day. Not DJT FELON47.

I grew up where Washington and Lincoln were celebrated not criminal POSs!!
Me too! I used to draw and cut-outs of presidents Washington and Lincoln in school.
A very good analysis of this Holiday.

Hello from Chicago suburbs. Your bluntness is refreshing.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

That was a really good read Michael, I needed that. Appreciate feeling some hope for the future after reading this article.
Thank you, keep up the good work, looking forward to continuing to read your work. Are you considering another book?
Well, today's a good day for a proper protest
I question this. “54% of Americans overall believe he is performing well in office. “
I have information on this and what is happening.
