Such a disappointing way to celebrate the US Army. They could have done a good job if DJT stayed out of it. What happens for the Navy and Marines anny which is this year as well.
You may be missing a lot of the coverage of the No Kings protests from your point of view. Here in ruby red Kingsport, TN, a 70% Trump voting district had demonstrations in both Kingsport and Johnson City 20 miles apart with around 2000 people attending each. There were two above the fold articles in the Monday edition of the Kingsport Times-News covering the rallies favorably. There was only a passing mention of the parade in DC and that only to describe the most popular themes on the protesters signs.
The big problem of covering the No Kings protests is that it was so big and dispersed that the big media outlets couldn't get their arms around it. The protests got the kind of coverage that you complained was lacking. It just wasn't in the kind of streams you are watching. It was in thousands of small local newspapers in the towns where most of the protests were taking place.
Off topic, but.. very cool to hear about Kingsport. My significant other's sister lives there, and we have visited from Chicago. Regarding coverage, even in Chicago media coverage did not get everything. There were many marches in addition to tens of thousands in downtown. It is encouraging to hear about Kingsport, even if not through mainstream media.
I was more trying to comment on Michael Cohen's rant in the video that all the coverage he was seeing only talked about the failure of Trump's birthday parade. My point is that as much as I support Mr. Cohen's reporting and commentary, he's a bit myopic. The reporting on the protests he was wishing to predominate was there, just not visible to someone looking only at media aimed at a national audience. Our local papers here in East Tennessee have never met a Republican they didn't support, yet there was favorable coverage of the No Kings events taking over the first two pages of the Monday editions. From my admittedly small sample size of two, I feel the same type of reporting was replicated in thousands of small town newspapers across the country.
Yes, I think folks in large cities (New York especially; Chicago less so) have no idea how the rest of the country lives. I moved to Chicago suburbs in the 1980s, but I mostly grew up in smaller towns (father’s job moved us around a lot), so I am very familiar with life in smaller towns. You cannot shut out everyone who does not think the same as oneself in such places. One has to look for common ground and cooperate. Good points.
Michael I understand the tell a friend theory but it's so slow for the numbers you want. With all these protests of now millions of people plus TV coverage why can't someone organize carrying Substack signs? They would need to be designed in such away that describes what it is. Also why not booths at events with brochures, It's summer and every city and town has some type of gatherings. We could put pictures up of participating people such as yourself to attract then explain what Substack is. The cost would be minable, just need a table with a cloth covering, brochures can be printed at home and the signs should be professionally done so just a one time expenditure. We have our county fair coming as most counties in the country has, concerts, rodeo's etc. People would all be volunteers. Give it some thought. I have and these suggestions will work.
Yay, I'm glad we're able to catch the end after the screen went black; sorry I wasn't able to answer you, video and audio disappeared for all of us and all we could see were our own chat comments. I wait for app updates these days, so many glitches lol 😵💫
Finally watched the recorded video later; tried several times to connect when live, but could not.
The US Army most definitely deserved an honorable and beautiful celebration for 250 years of existence. It is drilled into every member of the US military that they serve our country and Constitution. It was Trump's selfish hijacking of the event that ruined it for both the Army and the American public.
There is a marching order called a “Route Step” which looks similar to what they were doing, but it’s not used in parades but in uneven ground or loose, hazardous terrain.
The Platoon Sergeants should have been calling cadence loud and proud, and the troops should have been answering in high volume.
That was a sorry and poorly executed effort. The troops wearing the big gold, horse head patches with the diagonal black stripe, are from my old unit in Vietnam, the 1st Cavalry Division. Normally a very proud unit.
Absolutely not! Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, welcomed immigrants, and was a man of kindness. Christians are thankful because Jesus Died on the cross for our sins. Now I am not a Jesus freak, but I am a Christian and when I die, I wanna go to heaven. Drumph Is much closer if not the antichrist here on earth! He was a man of peace and love not a man of hate and division. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I think Anand’s description of Trump’s parade as “limp” and “flaccid” is soooo spot on! It was gross & embarrassing!

Some of those men & women "marching"- weren't! The casual walking in a group, they were sending a message. GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY*

lol 🤣
Ditto😂 What a right on description, perfect🙀
Maybe it was the soldiers weekend off and they would have rather been anywhere else but Washington DC on a Saturday for a parade!

Lev: Where the American flags and no king signs at the maga households?
Alt National Park Service says that there were 13.14 million protesting. Great numbers.
Anand, you have such a way with words. I love it. Made me laugh and there's not enough of that in our country today.
Gas is $3.40 in my area today. Yesterday it was $3.00. Every time it works it way down to $3.00 the next day it is always $3.40.
