I love what you have written here. I also really enjoyed the town hall yesterday. I have been literally sick to my stomach for about a week now or longer, since it has become more and more apparent that Trump is not willing to bring Mr. Garcia back from El Salvador. Not just Mr. Garcia, but all of the people who were taken there without due process. Then the threats to build prisons for "homegrowns." This morning I heard something about Steve Miller looking into deporting American citizens who don't agree with Trump- basically, if one protests, it is treason in their eyes. It is all so dystopian and yet, it is here and now. I have been writing letters to my reps, senators, and other state senators and reps too. I have been protesting, posting, writing, and I wrote a petition. I design and sell political t-shirts. I have been doing a lot. I feel a little scared. While I know I am low on the totem pole (compared to "real" authors, podcasters, etc.), I feel a little scared- is the Trump regime really going to deport everyday citizens who don't agree with him? And deport them to where? To an El Salvador concentration camp? I would move to another country but I don't have the money to do that. I also feel it is important to stay and fight. I think of both of my grandfathers, who fought so hard in a couple of wars each. I just can't let things play out this way on my watch. I have to do whatever I can do, as long as I can (I am 58). Shout out to everyone else hanging in there with me! Anyway, I appreciate you!
I am 72 and feel exactly as you do. I am also a little bit scared. I saw all of this coming, everyday another chink in our armor. And now, we can say we are in a constitutional crisis, surprise! What in the hell do we do next? Ok, protest until we can’t? Everyday waiting for the other shoe to drop. I cancelled travel to my beloved Scotland, afraid I might be flagged coming back, for who knows what? Will my SS deposit be in my bank account next month. Will my healthcare providers stop accepting my Medicare Card because they are not getting reimbursed? One day when I go to withdraw from my bank account will the bank say sorry it’s locked, try again tomorrow. In two years when I need to renew my passport, will I be able to? Will my retirement portfolio be worth next to nothing, certainly not enough to see me through to the end. Not only will food be more costly, shelves will be partially empty of product. No more updated vaccines and diseases that were eradicated many years ago are rampant. Can’t travel because other countries won’t let us enter and no one wants to come here! WTF!!!
Oh yes. I can to relate to much of what you say. If not personally, then because you share the concerns my mom (78) shares that she is going through with her savings, her medicare and social security. We are also planning a trip out of the country, and have waited until this stage in our lives to plan many such trips. Now we are both just shaking our heads, wondering if it is safe to go, or if it will be safe to come back...I mean, I know we are not the highest of risk people, we don't have dark skin, we are not immigrants. We are not transgender. But we are women with long documented histories of being outspoken, mine online, my mother on radio. So we worry. But my mom and I also believe in fighting. We come from a family of fighting folk, and we feel that we just have to do that. So, come what may, we will fight for our democracy. But I am telling you...I am admitting here...I am scared. I think democracy defenders should set up a Go Fund Me account (possibly hosted in Canada where Musk can't touch it) as a fighting fund for anyone who needs legal services if being attacked for no good reason by the government. Be super careful with your language (I'm sure you are already, but I mean ridiculously careful, so they can't deliberately misconstrue your T shirts as being a call to violence etc).

Neither government can produce any evidence he was in ms13. He didn't even live in their region.
